Long response on portions of Talmud dealing with monetary laws, by Rabbi Chaim Sitehon of Safed, sent to Rabbi Moshe Kliers, Ashkenazic Rabbi of Tiberias. Safed, 1918.
At the end, writer mentions monetary issues that had arisen between Drohobycz Kollel in Safed and Rabbi David Segal.
Rabbi Chaim Sitehon (Otzar 6100) served as Rabbi of Safed, author of Eretz HaChaim, son of Rabbi Menashe Sitehon – Rabbi of Aleppo and Safed. Born 1871. His father died when he was 5 years old, and his mother (Ashkenazic) married Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Sulitzer, who raised him as a son. See enclosed material.
The response is written in distinctive Ashkenazi handwriting. (Apparently handwriting of copier. Possibly written by R' Chaim himself, who learned in an Ashkenazi cheider).
According to most bibliographical sources, R' Chaim died in the middle of the first World War, in 1916, but the response before us was written in 1918, which requires an inquiry. [According to Y. Harel, Aretz books, Jerusalem 1997, page 408, he died in 1918].

1. A response letter from Rabbi Aharon Ben Shimon from Safed, regarding a din torah with Leibeish Bromfler who had opened a factory in a yard nearby an area known to be (by word from generation to generation) as the house of Maran Beis Yosef. 8 pages.
2. A letter to Rabbi Yeshua Falagi, one of Safed's Rabbinical leaders, from a poor man who tried his luck in Jerusalem. The writer asks the Rabbi to tell his wife to sell all their belongings and come with their children and join him in Jerusalem. Knowing that the money she will receive from selling their belongings will not cover the cost of transportation (!) he asks that the tzedakkah organization should give her the missing amount (Cheshvan 1936)
3. A mission letter to Egypt. 1931. 2 pages signed by the Rabbis of Safed: Rabbi Yeshua Falagi, Rabbi Refael Menashe Antebi, Rabbi Shlomo HaLevi, Rabbi Chaim HaKohen and others.

"Emissaries from Hebron have not set foot in your city since 1909…" the letter goes on to write of how assistance from all other countries was cut off since the World War.

Rabbi Saliman Menchem Mani (1850-1924) was born in Baghdad to his father Rabbi Eliyahu Mani, author of Siach Yitzchak. Son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Ferrara. Member of the Sdeh Chemed's Beit Din, and his successor as Rabbi of Hebron.
Rabino Meir Franko (1866-1931), the faithful assistant of the Sdeh Chemed, and dayan in his Beit Din. He served as community rabbi in Hebron. His Torah thoughts were printed in his father's book Sha'arei Rachamim, and in Torah MiTzion and HaMe'asef journals.
Rabbi Meir Shmuel Castel was born in Hebron in 1860. Member of the S'deh Chemed's Beit Din. Murdered in Hebron Massacre, 1929.
Rabino Chanoch Chason was born in Hebron, 1867, and killed with his wife in the Hebron Massacre. The rioters burned his writings.
