Miniature pair of finials, pointer ("yad") and shield for a small Torah scroll. Austro-Hungarian Empire, late 19th or early 20th century.
Silver (marked), cast, embossed and engraved; gilt. Maker's mark: CW.
1-2. Pair of finials, style characteristic of the place and period, decorated with flowers and two rows of bells. Height: 10.5 cm. Good condition. Some bends. Four missing bells.
3. Torah shield, made of a hammered and engraved silver plate and decorated with a pair of lions holding the Tablets of the Law, a Torah crown and decorations in vegetal motifs. Attached to reverse are three loops and a chain for hanging. Length: 8.5 cm, width: 6.5 cm. Good condition.
4. Torah pointer. At its tip are a loop and chain. Length: 10 cm.

Repoussé, punched and engraved silver (marked).
Cartouche-shaped plate. In the center are the Tablets of the Law (engraved), supported by two roaring lions surmounting vegetal motifs. Beneath the Tablets is an opening for changeable plaques and beneath it is a vegetal decoration and a cartouche (engraved, inscription unclear). At the top of the shield is a crown surmounting curtains and fringes. On the right and left margins are pairs of roaring lion heads. The surface is punched with tiny dots. On the reverse are three loops and a chain for hanging.
We know of similar shields created in Vienna in the late 19th century, but this shield was possibly created in Romania.
Length: 32 cm, width: 25 cm. Good condition. Missing plaques.

Small Torah shield. Unknown location [Jerusalem? Iran-Iraq?], dedication from 1861.
Silver, sawn, repousée and engraved; blue gem stone.
Rectangular shield with a dome on top. Hebrew inscription engraved on top: "donated by Hachnasat Orchim Society in 1861". Beneath it are the inscription "Torah Crown" (Hebrew), Tablets of the Law (engraved) and a crown-like decoration. A blue gem stone is set above the Tablets of the Law. Geometric decorations and two flower vases with leaves and flowers are engraved on the left and on the right side. A Star of David appears on top of the shield (it is possible that it was added at a later date). Suspension chain.
Length: 16 cm, width: 11.5 cm. Good condition. Two pinholes (missing gemstones?) on the sides and a blocked pinhole in the center. Some soldering repairs, old. Stains.

Round shield. Engraved in the center is the "Tower of David" citadel, with three olive trees in the foreground. Soldered at the top is a crown surmounting the engraved inscription (Hebrew) "David, King of Israel, lives and exists". Engraved at the bottom is the inscription (Hebrew) "Tower of David", surmounting five soldered loops with bells suspended from them (three of the bells are shaped as pomegranates). At the margins of the top part are two soldered loops and a chain for hanging.
Length: 21.5 cm (without the bells), width: 17 cm. Good condition.

Case for Song of Songs scroll. [Probably Europe, late 19th or early 20th century].
Cast brass; engraved sheet copper; gemstones.
Unique miniature book-shaped case, specially made to hold the Song of Songs scroll. Consists of a copper box engraved with the inscription "The Song of Songs scroll, which is Solomon's, son of David King of Israel" (Hebrew). The box has a slot for inserting the scroll, and a roller with floral decorations on its tip. The box is inserted in a bookbinding-like cover that can be closed with a clasp and is decorated with two gemstones.
Length: 8 cm, width: 6 cm. Good overall condition. Protruding hinges. Signs of soldering.

Ink on thin vellum; filigree silver.
"Hamelech" scroll (most columns open with the word "Hamelech"), with special serifs decorating the word "Hamelech". Fine scribal script, with serifs (tagim), 28 lines per column, on thin vellum membranes of good quality.
Rolled in a silver case adorned with filigree craftsmanship.
Height of vellum: 9.5 cm, height of case: 18 cm. Scroll in good condition; tear and some stains at the beginning of first membrane. Some breaks and bends to case, with damage to filigree, making it somewhat difficult to roll the scroll into and out of the case.
