Printed after being proofread by Italian Rabbis, R. Avraham Yedidyah son of R. Shimshon Basilea, Rabbi Refael Hayim Mi-Itailah Ha-Rofe, and Rabbi Aviad Sar Shalom Basilea (brother of the first) who also added comments to the book.
Variant. The Orach Chaim has the rare original title page with imaginary images of Rashi, Rambam, Maharil, Maharik, the Rama, and Rabbi Gur Aryeh. Reputedly, the rabbis of Mantova ordered to destroy the original title page following a dispute surrounding the attempt to create portraits of these great rabbis. The copy presented here has the original title page.
Signatures: "Achim" (Hebrew acronym) on all three title pages - R. Avraham Chai Mussafia (Otzar Harabbanim 1056), a scholar from Turkey and Jerusalem. Son of R. Chaim Yitzchak, Rabbi of Split [who also used to sign with the acronym "Achim" - Amar Chaim Itzchak Mussafia]. His book Tehilla L'David on Tehillim (Livorno 1867) and his novellae were published also in his father's book Chaim V'Chesed (Livorno 1844).
All the parts are bound in one thick volume. [Part 1] Orach Chaim: [3], 2-146 leaves. [Part 2] Yoreh De'ah: [1], 148-288 leaves. Baruch of Irsa [who printed the Talmud at the behest of his brother the Rebbe, Ba'al HaTanya, R. Shneur Zalman son of Baruch].
On the verso of the title page are seven approbations, including approbations by leading Chassidic figures: R. Shneur Zalman of Liadi, R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv and R. Aryeh Leib of Volochysk, with mention of the publisher, R. Baruch of Irsa and R. Shalom Shachne of Stolin. Contains prayers for weekdays, Shabbat, Festivals and the High-Holidays, with the Passover Haggadah, Selichot, Yotzrot and Hosha'anot, arranged by R. Moshe of Działoszyn, combined with the halachic composition Derech HaChaim by R. Ya'akov of Lissa. In the "introduction to Sidur Tikun Shabbat" R. Moshe of Działoszyn writes about the unity of the jewish people and criticizes the disagreements between different groups (Mitnagdim and Chassidim).
After the Slavita printing press closed, the Shapira family moved with their printing tools to the city of Józefów and the printing press was established there for a short while until they re-established it in the city of Zhitomir.
