Cloth with bird decoration and colorful embroidery, "Made by the General Israel Orphans Home Jerusalem". Jerusalem, [early decades of the 20th century].
Rectangular cloth, in the middle of which is a decoration of a bird carrying a branch with flowers in its beak. At the four corners are floral decorations. At the top and bottom margins is the inscription: "Made by General Israel Orphans Home Jerusalem" (Hebrew and English).
The "General Orphans Home" in Jerusalem was founded in 1902 by David Weingarten. At first it was situated on Meah Shearim Street, later moving to a building in the courtyard of the Ethiopian Church, and in 1930 it moved to the Alliance House on Jaffa Street, where 200 orphaned girls resided. Approx. 80X51 cm. Good-fair condition. Cloth slightly faded. Unraveled threads and tears where the cloth is attached to the lining. Holes to margins.
