Manuscript, siddur for year-round use - for weekdays, Shabbat and festivals. [Yemen, c. 19th century]. Yemenite writing, vowelized.
Title page with illustrated frame: "Siddur of prayers according to Sephardic tradition, and written for the entire year…". On verso of title page: "Version of blessings and prayers, according to our tradition of the holy congregation throughout Yemenite cities". Contains prayers for weekdays and for Shabbat, prayers for Rosh Chodesh, Birkat HaLevana, Seder for Chanuka, Tikun Purim, Tikun Pesach with the Haggadah, prayers for the Three Festivals and Azharot for Shavuot.
Some leaves at the end were replaced in another handwriting.
[125] leaves. Lacking several leaves at the end. The last 20 leaves (Approximately) [prayers for the Festival of Shavuot and Azharot] are in a different handwriting. 17 cm. Manuscript, "Prayer siddur for everyday, with Shabbat prayers". The city of Magez, [North-Yemen], 1940.
Folk writing, partly vowelized. The name of the writer appears on the title page: "David (Da'ud) Ibn Kurtzan".
Magez - a small village in Jamaa in North Yemen, north of Saada on the way to Hidan- al-Sham. In the beginning of the 20th century, the village's Jewish community numbered about 10 families. In the winter of 1941, a heavy earthquake hit the village claiming the lives of some members of the small community. Before the mass Aliya to Israel, six families with a total of 28 people (5 men, 8 women, 6 girls and 9 boys) comprised the community and only some of them immigrated to Israel. (According to Encyclopedia L'Kehillot Teiman, Vol. 2, p. 292).
