Embroidered textile for a Torah Scroll case. [Algeria, early 20th century]. Velvet and cotton, golden-thread embroidery. Brown-purple velvet with a dedication in the center. Below the dedication – ornamentation of a ribbon and two branches. Fringes and a golden ribbon all around. The inscription (in illegible letters) reads: “…a splendid Mappa in honor of a Torah / …donation… / Maliha Halimi… / Raphael and… / Avraham Halimi…”. Length: 68 cm. Width: 120 cm. Fair condition. Unraveled threads, tears to lining.

Decorative textile for a Torah Scroll case. [Tunisia or Morocco, early 20th century]. Silk (?), embroidery threads. Dense embroidery of diagonal rectangles. A stylized embroidery of branches and flowers in golden threads appears within each rectangle. Inscribed within one rectangle: “For the rest of… Miriam neé Leloush…”. Dots are embroidered next to the inscription. Length: 38 cm, width: 130 cm. Poor condition. Holes, tears and stains.

Decorative textile to cover Elijah’s chair (Kiseh Eliyahu). Jerusalem, 1866. Velvet and cotton; silver threads; cardboard. Red velvet, embroidered with an inscription and vegetal pattern, in Morrocan style: “Brit Milah / Eliyahu HaNavie / Ir Hakodesh / Yerushalayim / 1866”. A flower is embroidered in the center, with intertwined branches and smaller flowers. Length: 70 cm, width: 84 cm. Fair condition. Worn fabric. Some unraveled letters. Stains to lining.

Torah mantle. Spanish Morocco, 1906. Velvet, golden-threads embroidery. A typical mantle, widening downwards. Made of two embroidered velvet parts, with an opening in front. The parts of the mantle are named “Kisui” and “Glima”. The embroidery surrounds the two openings for the two Atzei Chayim. The mantle is made of black velvet richly embroidered in golden threads. Around the margins – an embroidery ribbon with a dense pattern. Embroidery pattern inside is sparse with floral motifs and birds. On the reverse, on the upper part, a dedication: “A Mappah… dedicated by Avraham Zarfati… in memory of his mother… 1906”. A round pattern of wreaths and birds below the dedication. Length: 82 cm, max. width: 48 cm. Good-fair condition. Some unraveled stitches, worn velvet. Torah mantle. [North Africa? Ottoman Empire? Early 20th century]. Torah Mantle, made of two parts. Upper part made of wood and covered with fabric, with openings for Atzei Chayim, decorated with golden fringes at the edges. The mantle has an opening in front, made of a nice fabric with floral patterns. Outer part is made of Burgundy colored fabric, with vegetal patterns embroidered in golden thread, with sequins. Length: 80 cm., max. width: approx. 88 cm. Fair condition. Tears, velvet is worn.
