Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Shlomo son of Moshe with the bride Sarah daughter of Yitzchak. Yazd, Adar Rishon 1872. Decorated with characteristic adornments of Shiviti. At the top is the inscription “Shiviti Hashem L’Negdi Tamid”, above three micrographic menorahs formed with the words of the Ana B’Ko’ach prayer and two Psalms. Above the two outer menorahs is G-d’s name (using the technique of coloring the space inside the letters). Between the menorahs are two more micrographic adornments, with various verses. The frame is made of half-circles composed of verses of Tehillim and Mishlei, some in acronyms. At the bottom is the Tosefet Ketubah in Judeo-Persian. Among the signatures is “Yosef son of R’ Or” [descendant of the Or Shraga and a Yazed sage]. 45X60 cm. Fair-good condition. Folding marks. Tears, some with restorations. Stains. Minor damage to text.

Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Moshe son of Aharon with the bride Rivka Hamdam daughter of Elias (?). Sana [Sanandij], Iranian Kurdistan, [1929]. The words of the ketubah are very faded and almost illegible. The ketubah is dated according to its documentation in the catalog “Yehudei Kurdistan” [Hebrew: Kurdistan Jews – Their Lifestyle, Traditions and Art], (the Israel Museum, 1981), p. 236. Particularly elegant frame, vegetal and architectural patterns in vivid colors: arched windows, a Star of David encompassing the word “Zion” and the (Hebrew) letters of Magen David inside an arch, vases of flowers and tendrils, peacocks and trees and various geometric patterns. 57X78 cm. Fair condition. Words of the Ketubah in faded ink. Two large open tears in the center, with damages to ornamentation. Additional tears to margins and folding lines. Stains. Adorned with illustrations of lions, birds and peacocks, cypress trees, the sun and flowers. The motif of a lion with half a sun in the shape of a man’s face is a Persian national symbol. On the margins of the ketubah words in the illustrator’s signature: “The artist and writer Moshe son of R’ Yeshua”. At the bottom is a Tosefet Ketubah from 1887. 70X92 cm. Fair condition.
