Two shtarot of Tena’im Achronim, Holland and Germany (?), 18th century. · Shtar Tena’im Achronim, handwritten. Recording the marriage of the groom Mordechai son of R’ Binyamin of Lichtrongin with the bride Keila daughter of Rabbi Yechiel Reuven of Pehm. Signatures of witnesses Rabbi “Moshe son of R’ Yehuda Cohen Freidland of Jebenhausen and Rabbi “Yehuda Leib son of Moshe Yitzchak of Brauchoisen”. The town of Lichtrongin in the Korfira (?) district. Cheshvan 1768. · Printed document in eloquent Ashkenazi cursive script, with blank spaces for completing by hand. At the top of the leaf, the heading Tena’im Achronim is written in square letters and the symbol of the Ashkenazi community of Amsterdam [letters on sides of a Star of David: C. A. A [congregation of Ashkenazim in Amsterdam]. Completed by hand recording the marriage of the groom Zelig son of R’ Avraham [Snohakitz?] with the bride Sheina daughter of R’ Yosef son of R’ Lipman Perli. Signature of the bride and groom and the bride’s father, and signatures of the witnesses, Rabbi “Binyamin Wolf son of R’ Zalman” and “Rabbi “Moshe…”. Amsterdam Shevat 1791. The shtar Tena’im Achronim drawn on the day of the wedding is an early custom mentioned in the Sma (Choshen Mishpat, Siman 145) and in the Mahari Weil responsa (Siman 143). The version is according to the book Nachalat Shiva. Also customary, is to include a Shtar Chalitza in this shtar with collateral given by brothers of the groom, with obligation to keep the mitzvah of chalitzah if the bride is widowed with no sons. The obligation contains a term of financial debt, in case the brothers will refuse to perform Chalitzah, thus rendering the woman an agunah, prohibiting her to remarry. [See Nachalat Shiva Siman 21]. Two shtarot, 32-33 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and tears.
