Two polemic books on matters pertaining to the Sabbatean doctrine and faith: · Kinat Hashem Tzevaot, explaining the sayings of Rashbi in the Zohar, which were mistakenly interpreted by the followers of Sabbatai Zevi. By Rabbi Moshe Chaim Lutzato – the Ramchal. [Konigsberg, 1862]. First edition. VIII, 32 pages. 16.5 cm. Good-fair condition, detached leaves, unbound. Tears and minor damages to text. · Netzach Yisrael, polemic article supporting Rabbi Eliezer Horowitz, Rabbi of Vienna, and Rabbi Isaac Noah Mannheimer – "About their testimony of the unity of the Jewish faith in our times and the manner of faith at the time of the coming of the Messiah", by Isaac Hirsh Weiss. Vienna, 1864. 21, [1] page. 20.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Wear, restored tear to title page margin. The background of this work is an article written by Tzvi Graetz, interpreting the prophecy of Isaiah, and denying the coming of the Messiah. Graetz was brought to court for publishing ideas that were heretical to Catholic faith, but Rabbi Horowitz and Rabbi Mannheimer defended him. In his book Neshek Bar, Fuerth 1864, Rabbi Nissan Schidlow opposed this book. (See about this affair: Areshet, Issue 5, Jerusalem 1972, pp. 143-145; Kedem catalog, Auction 2, Item 149).

Three volumes, one of the first editions of Shulchan Aruch, with "Ba'er Hetev": · Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chayim, with Ba'er Hetev by Rabbi Yehuda Ashkenazi of Tykocin. Amsterdam, 1742. First edition. · Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'a, with Ba'er Hetev, by Yehudah Ashkenazi. With Ba'er Hetev by Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt on Hilchot Semachot. Amsterdam, 1746. Second edition with new additions. Shulchan aruch Choshen Mishpat. With Ba'er Hetev, by Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt. Amsterdam, 1749. First edition. Several authors composed "Ba'er Hetev" on Shulchan Aruch - with summary of writings by great authorities among Shulchan Aruch commentators. The first was Rabbi Yesha'aya, grandson of "Turei Zahav, who composed "Ba'er Hetev" on Orach Chayim (Amsterdam, 1708). The second was Rabbi Yehudah Ashkenazi of Tykocin who authored Ba'er Hetev on three sections of Shulchan Aruch. The third author was Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt, Dayan of Amsterdam, who completed the composition on Choshen Mishpat and added to Yoreh De'a, Hilchot Semachot. The fourth author was Rabbi Zecharya Mendel of Belz; his composition on Yoreh De'a was later incorporated into the "Ba'er Hetev" by Rabbi Yehudah of Tykocin, which is nowadays the common commentary in most Shulchan Aruch books. His composition on Choshen Mishpat moved away Rabbi Moshe Franksfurt's composition, and this is what is found in present days Shulchan Aruch books. The fifth was Rabbi Moshe of Zolkva who authored "Ba'er Hetev" on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'a. Offered here are three parts of Shulchan Aruch with Ba'er Hetev commentary printed in Amsterdam between the years 1742-1749. This edition is unique: Orach chayim – first edition of "Ba'er Hetev" by Rabbi Yehudah Ashkenazi. · Yoreh De'a – printed after the first edition of Ba'er Hetev by Rabbi Yehudah Ashkenazi of 1739 was almost totally burnt in the publisher's warehouse; in this edition of Hilchot Semachot the composition of Rabbi Yehudah Ashkenazi was integrated with additions by Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt; this is the first edition out of two in which this version of commentary was printed. · Choshen Mishpat – first edition of "Ba'er Hetev" by Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt [Rabbi Yehudah Ashkenazi of Tykocin, who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Frankfurt, writes in his introduction to Orach Chaim that he wishes to compose a commentary to Choshen Mishpat but he passed away in 1743 and did not succeed in accomplishing this. The commentary by Moshe Frankfurt on Choshen Mishpat was printed only in very few editions]. 3 volumes, 18 cm: [5] 320 pp; [4] 285 pp; [4] 396 pp. Good condition. Stains and some wear. Ancient ownership inscriptions [deleted]. Original leather bindings, gold embossing and gilt edges, slightly worn. About the unique importance of the edition offered here, see: Rabbi Y.D. Weller, "Mahadurot Ba'er Hetev leShulchan Aruch", Zachor LeAvraham (Holon, 1992, pp.112-122).
