Three drawings depicting the Independence War / Eretz Israel or Paris, 1949 / Ink on Paper / Signed, titled and dated.
Upper part of each of the three drawings is pasted to a Britol sheet. The leaves are numbered by hand (no.3-5) and bear the titles of the drawings: "Haganah", "Hatkafah", "Pegishah" (Hebrew). The drawings are contained in a brown Bristol cover, illustrated by Arikha. In the center - illustration of a pair of soldiers and the title of the series of drawings: croquis de guerre [ French; War Sketches]. On the sides appear inscriptions in Arikha's handwriting (Hebrew and French), including a quotation from the Book of Jeremiah: “I see the land…”. On the inner side of the cover appears a short dedication to Nahum Wachsman, signed by Arikha, inscribed in his handwriting: “there are cases, which you remember only after you have been detached from them, when these cases become part of you…”, and an additional inscription in French.
It is possible that the drawings and the cover are a proposal for a portfolio of drawings from the Independence War, which Arikha planned to publish.[3] leaves, 25X32.5 cm (drawings: 20X26.5 cm) + Bristol leaf, double folded, 39 cm. Good condition. Stains. Damages to Bristol cover.
