"Kandil", Shabbat candle. Morocco [Rabat?], 1910s.
Cast and pierced brass.
Double Shabbat lamp. When stored, the small lamp was hung on a hook in the center of the large lamp. Identical decorations on both lamps. The central decoration is geometric, pierced. Two cast birds on top of the decoration, with a fringe between them.
Height: Large lamp: 32 cm, small lamp: 25 cm. Good condition.

Shabbat candle - a Memorial candle for a woman. Morocco, early 20th century.
Brass tin, engraved and hammered.
In Morocco, it was customary to light Shabbat and holiday candles at home in a "Kandil". After a woman's death, on the first memorial day, the lamps were donated to the synagogue with an engraved dedication in the woman's name. Maintenance of the candles and wicks was done by the family. The "Kandil" presented consists of two levels for wicks and an inscription in a round frame reads: "Ner Ma'or LeMenuchat…Rachel Abergil…".
Height: 21 cm, width: 15 cm, depth: 12 cm. Good condition, soldering marks.
