Mateh Dan – Kuzari Sheni, "Proves and teaches with logical claims… the truth of the Oral Torah", by Rabbi David Nieto. London, [1714]. First edition.
The first edition was printed in three variations: Only Hebrew, only Spanish and Hebrew with Spanish. This is the combined edition, Hebrew and Spanish (column opposite column), which is the most rare out of the three.
Two illustrated title pages, one in Hebrew and one in Spanish. At the top of the title pages is a drawing of Rabbeinu HaKadosh (Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi) – the writer of the Mishnah. Between the Hebrew title page and the Spanish title page is a long printed dedication in Spanish to the community leaders and gabai of the Sha'ar HaShamayim congregation in London and a Hebrew introduction to the book.
Stamps. Ownership inscriptions and quill attempts on binding leaves. On back binding leaf is an ownership inscription in Italian writing: "The Great Mekubal Chassid Mohareridam [?]…".
Rabbi David Nieto (1654-1728, Otzar HaRabbanim 4926), a Torah genius with vast knowledge of science, dayan, speaker and doctor in Livorno and later first rabbi of the Sephardic community of London. Author of the famous book Mateh Dan – Kuzari Sheni defending the truth of the Oral Torah and contradicting mistaken theories which were rampant in the midst of the Anusim communities of Western Europe.
Complete copy. [10], 254 leaves. 22 cm. The body of the book is in a very good condition. Ink stains and reinforcement with glued paper on the first pages. Binding with parchment spine, damaged.

• Geulat Hashem, haggadah with commentaries and laws, by Rabbi Eliyahu Lavi. Livorno, 1864. On the title page and on its reverse side are handwritten dedication and signature of the author Rabbi "Eliyahu Lavi" [renowned Libyan Torah scholar, Rabbi of the city of Bengazi, 1820-1881]. In Petach Tov (at the beginning of the book), the author mentions the blood libel which the gentiles of his native city of Bengazi alleged; how they slandered his son Rabbi David and three of his friends and the tale of the travails which they experienced.

Dedication on title page from 1951, handwritten and signed by the publisher, Rabbi Yehoshua Segal Deutsch, son of the author, to Rebbe Hager from Seret-Vizhnitz.
Recipient of book: The Rebbe of Seret-Vizhnitz, Rabbi Baruch Hager (1895-Cheshvan 1963), fourth son of the Ahavat Yisrael of Vizhnitz. His first marriage was to the daughter of Rebbe Yissachar Dov of Belz and his second was to the daughter of Rabbi Eliezer Nissan Horwitz. Was a Torah genius and an outstanding Chassid. Served in the rabbinate from 1923 and in 1936 was appointed Rebbe in his city of Seret (Siret). In 1947, immigrated to Haifa where he established his Beit Midrash and a large community which is a Torah lighthouse in the city of Haifa until today. Member of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah, one of the heads of Chinuch Atzma'i and of Agudat Yisrael.
The writer of the dedication is Rabbi Yehoshua Segal Deutsch (1910-1990), author of Beit HaLachmi son-in-law of Rabbi David Shperber, Rabbi of Brașov. Disciple of Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky and Rabbi Yo'el Teitelbaum. Served as "Junior Rabbi" in Brașov and in the rabbinate of various communities in the Diaspora. After the Holocaust, he ascended to Jerusalem where he was appointed Av Beit Din in Katamon and was the first head of the Belz Yeshivot in Eretz Israel.
His father, the author, was Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Segal Deutsch (1836-1938,Otzar HaRabbanim 6338), Torah genius and Chassid. Dayan and halachic authority in Makó for 35 years.
