First Sefer HaKavanot printed from the Kabalistic teachings of the Arizal. On the last page is a colophon: "The work was completed on Tuesday, the 5th of Av 1620, the same time the Rabbi… G-dly Mekubal Chaim Vital died". [Rabbi Chaim Vital died on the 30th of Nissan, 1620].

On the cover leaf appears a handwritten copy of approbations from the first edition.

This book is the source of many famous segulot for remembering Torah studies and an amulet for protection of a woman giving birth. Just having the book in the house is a proven segula for protection from damage and fire as written in this book: "A superior segula, for having wise and sage grandchildren, for success and blessing, to extinguish fires that they should not govern your house, and any bad happening should not reside in your dwelling, to anyone who has this holy and important book with him, hidden with his silver and gold in his treasury, and in time of need it will bring him speedy salvation. This can be testified by all who study the Torah". Some say that it is a segula for people without children and for women who have difficult births.

This copy belonged to Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz author of Chazon Ish. Pages contain several concise glosses of corrections and critique (“not understood”, “not listed in Shach” and more), as well as lengthy erudite gloss, in the holy handwriting of the Chazon Ish.
Ga’on Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz (1879-1954), genius of Halachah and philosophy of our generation. Phenomenal Torah giant and concealed Tzaddik. Published his first book Chazon Ish anonymously in 1911, and from then on was referred to by the name of his book. After World War I resided in Vilnius. The Ga’on Rabbi Chaim Ozer who recognized his greatness insisted that he join the public leadership of the Jewish people, and upon his immigration to Eretz Israel in 1933 addressed to him many rulings pertaining to the leadership of the Torah settlement in Eretz Israel. Reinforced the observance of Laws and Customs of the Land of Eretz Israel and initiated the revival of Torah and Chassidism of our generation. Authored and published the dozens of Chazon Ish books which were written with supreme travail, on almost all matters of the six sections of the Mishnah.

In one gloss he writes, "…But I have heard that the opinion of my teacher, my father-in-law is that… and my opinion is void". The glosses and corrections were not included in the third edition [with additions and corrections] which we have seen.

Hundreds of glosses in Ashkenazi handwriting; most are references and corrections of versions with some short scholarly notes. In one note, the writer mentions his family background: "What my grandfather wrote in the book Maginei Shlomo". On the last leaf is a faded inscription "R' David Ya'akov Biderman". Apparently, the glosses are in the handwriting of Rabbi Ya'akov David Biderman (1806-1863, Encyclopedia L'Chasidut Vol. 2 p. 260). Disciple of Rabbi Shlomo Leib of Łęczna and the Kotzk Rebbe. Rabbi in Mezhyrich , Kozienice and Wyszogród , descendent of the author of Pnei Yehoshua responsa and Maginei Shlomo. Wrote several books, renowned for his work Hagahot Maharid on Torat Cohanim (Sifra) with the commentary of the Rash Mi'Shantz. He prepared the latter commentary for print from a manuscript he owned to which he added his own glosses and notes.

On the title page are various signatures and ownership inscriptions: inscriptions that this book "belongs to the Chacham Av Beit Din and Rabbi of Tunis… Eliyahu Borgel"; curly signatures (erased); owner's dedication signed with the pseudonym "S.C Li Ze'ira", who gives the book as a gift to Rabbi "Moshe Yom Tov". More signatures.
Scholarly glosses in Oriental handwriting by several writers. Two glosses are signed N.B.R. [possibly, the signature of the author Natan Borgel]. One gloss is signed "M.S.M.---Sil"T".
The author, Rabbi Natan Borgel (died in Cheshvan 1791), leading Tunis Torah scholar. One of the leading commentators on the tractates of Seder Kodshim. Ascended to Jerusalem in his later years. Served in the Tunis rabbinate. His son Rabbi Eliyahu Borgel was Av Beit Din and head of a yeshiva in Tunis. Some of his novellae was printed in his father's books. The Borgel family was one of the most important families in Tunisia and served for many generations in the rabbinate of the capital city Tunis.
