Ze'ev Raban, sketch for a holocaust memorial plaque. Eretz Israel, [1949].
Pencil, ink and watercolor on paper.
Frame shaped as a prayer shawl; on the upper part appear two medallions: one with a memorial candle and a Shofar, the other with a shattered pillar and a jug. The central illustration portrays flames and a long snake with swastikas on its body; a Torah is seen on the floor. On the lower part are two large memorial candles. Inscription: "In memory of our relatives who were murdered, slaughtered, burnt and choked…" Verses handwritten in pencil appear on the borders and were meant to be integrated into the final version.

Inscription and decoration in shades of grey, black and sepia. In the center appear a pioneer and a lady-pioneer on both sides of a palm tree, a Star of David and within it the word "Zion". Inscription: "Gift to JNF activists", "The Hague" and "Jerusalem" [during the second half of the 1910s the main offices of JNF were in The Hague]. Additional illustrations: Tower of David and above it a portrait of Herzl, the Temple Mount (golden dome) and above it a portrait of Zvi Hermann Schapira, a Star of David, Menorah and agricultural work.

The inscription "Song of Songs" [Shir HaShirim] appears within a heraldic shield, under which appears a rose; frame consisting of roses (flowers, branches and leaves).
The artist Raphael Avraham Shalem (R"ASH) was born in Thessaloniki in 1888. Studied in "Bezalel" during the 1910s and later worked there as a teacher.
Length: 34 cm, width: 24 cm. Good condition. Minor stains. Frame 50X40 cm, not examined out of frame.

A large vase is seen in the center with branches, leaves, flowers and pomegranates. On the right side a lion and on the left side a deer (probably portraying a verse from Pirkei Avot). On the lower part are two Shofarot, turned upside down, and a flower.
The artist Mordechai Rosenshain was born in 1906; studied in "Bezalel" during the years 1921-1925. Works of his are in the collections of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.

This printing block was used for printing Ephraim Moses Lilien's famous print "Abraham". This work, as well as other works by Lilien, is in the style of "art novo". Abraham is depicted holding his shaft looking toward the sky, where a group of stylized stars are seen.
Width: 10cm, lengh: 12.5cm, thickness: 2.5cm.
