Manuscript of aggada novellae on the Torah and sermons for Shabbat and Festivals delivered from 1932-1943.
Autographic writing by the rabbi who delivered the sermons. Apparently, the notebook is handwritten by Rabbi Moshe Shtruli Rabbi of Banya. He mentions thoughts from the books Or HaChaim and Yitav Lev etc. discusses the difficulties of the times and current events. [He does not mention the place where he spoke with the exception of the sermon he delivered in 1938 which took place in the city of Kalush].
Rabbi Moshe (perished in the Holocaust, Otzar Harabanim 15185) was Rabbi of the Banya community (Felsöbánya, Baia-Sprie). Son of Rabbi Peretz Tuvia Shtruli who served as Rabbi and Magid of the Chevra Kadisha of Klausenburg. Son in law of Rabbi Moshe Yisrael Feldman Rabbi of Berezan and Rabbi of Dragomireşti related to the Maharasham from Berezan, printed many of the Maharasham's books. Manuscript, “Sermon for proper dressing of students in honor of Shabbat HaGadol [Shabbat preceding Pesach], 10 Nisan, 1922, Thessaloniki”. Lengthy sermon (14 pages) concerning value of giving charity, recited in honor of special custom, as written in introduction of sermon: “Ancient and holy custom throughout Sephardic communities, to dress students of the poor in expensive and graceful clothing on Shabbat HaGadol which precedes Pesach; and this festive dress is accompanied by sermon of rabbi of community”.
Sermon written upon official leaves of Rabbi Uziel as “chief rabbi of Jaffa and Tel Aviv community”, which he apparently brought along with him when he traveled to Thessaloniki to serve as rabbi.
Rabbi Ben-Tzion Chai Uziel (1881-1953), born in Jerusalem to Rabbi Yosef Raphael of an established rabbinical family of Jerusalem and descendant of the Chikrei Lev. At age 20 was appointed as rabbi of Tiferet Yerushalayim Yeshiva. In 1910 was appointed as chief rabbi of Sephardic community of Jaffa. In 1921 embarked to Thessaloniki (Greece) to serve as chief rabbi, and in 1923 returned to serve as chief rabbi of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. In 1939 was emissary and representative of community in London, and in same year was appointed chief rabbi of Eretz Israel. Composed: Mishpetei Uziel, Michmanei Uziel, HaShofet VeHaMishpat and more.

Medium square writing [by a number of hands].
Large collection with more than one hundred and fifty songs by Rabbi Israel Najara, his students and followers in the Balkan countries. At the top of each poem is recorded the type of composition and names of the Makamim (melodies). In some poems there are special marks for the professional singer.
The piyutim have not been thoroughly investigated. Some do not appear in Davidson’s “Otzar Hashir Vehapiyut”.
About 170 handwritten pages, leaves missing at beginning and at end. 22.5 cm. Stains and tears. No binding.

Oriental writing. Stamps and signatures of writer Rabbi “Ya’akov son of Rabbi Shalom Rabinowitz”, who signs many times at end of passages. In one instance he signed: “Ya’akov son of Rabbi. S. Rabinowitz Mizrachi from region of Caucasia”. The manuscript was written over the course of several years; dates mentioned in signatures are between 1883-1889.
Diverse collection: “Tikkunei Shabbat” by the Ari, Kabbalistic commentary on “Lecha Dodi” and on Shabbat songs [by Rabbi Yisrael Sarug and others]; Sefer Ben Sira; “these are the questions which Queen of Sheba asked Shlomo”; “song to Rabbi Ovadia” – Kabbalistic song on the spheres; Midrashim on destruction of the Temple; “commentary on Ya’ale Ve’Yavo by Ga’on Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilnius”, and more.
A large portion of the manuscript contains tales from various sources: “story about Rabbi Shlomo ben Gavriel…”, “story in Jerusalem in ancient times…”, “story of Chassid Rabbi Pinchas”, “story of priest, enemy of Jews”, “story of woman whose upper half of body is in form of animal”, “story of two youths who are faithful to each other”, “story of Rabbi Netanel”, “story of orchardist”, “story of the Rambam”, and more.

"I have arranged and counted all the words and letters of each and every verse…Tuvia Avraham ben Rabbi Shmuel Burger of Galanta and son-in-law of Rabbi Noach Zvi Ulman who was Rabbi of Antwerp author of Nachalat Zvi…". Eight volumes, product of many years effort of a single man who decided to devote his time (before the age of computers) to count and document the number of words and letters in the Bible divided according to books, chapters and verses. One section or several sections in each volume. The book is made up of charts filled in with numbers handwritten by the author.
Eight volumes (two are duplicates), hundreds of leaves. 31 cm. Condition of volumes varies (overall good condition). Stains, moth marks and wear. Worn bindings.

Thin quality-processed parchment. Illustrated title page in ink and color; at center, fine illustration of woman sitting in her home. Caption below illustration: “Written in honor of Ms. Esther Polaisi, village of Castellazzo”. Square Italian writing; instructions in Italian in Latin letters.
Prayers for woman who desires to conceive and give birth in peace. Includes table for counting seven spotless days following menstrual cycle [with heading: “Mitzvah for woman to count seven spotless days”]. Prayers for women to recite prior to immersion in ritual bath, near Mezuzah when leaving home, for period of pregnancy [“prayer to recite daily for nine months after morning prayer and in evening before going to sleep”], and prayer “which should be recited following Amidah prayer from seventh month of pregnancy”. Majority of prayers included in this manuscript unknown and apparently never printed.
Esther Polaisi, for whom the manuscript was written, was apparently wife of prominent philanthropist in community of Castellazzo. Several villages throughout Italy bear the name Castellazzo, most of which are located in northern Italy. Apparently this refers to Castellazzo Bormida in district of Alessandria in Piemonte, where Jews settled from as early as the 15th century.
