Koffman and Co.". Tel-Aviv, [1948]. A poster on behalf of Tel-Aviv municipality announcing the collection of a special tax for public bomb shelters and defense services. An illustration in color by Pesach Ir-Shay (1896-1968), a graphic designer, painter and Israeli typographer of Hungarian origin. Ir-Shay was one of the leading graphic designers in Israel. He designed posters for the state authorities and institutions, logos for various companies, advertisement and propaganda posters as well as the modern font "Chaim". 62X94 cm. Good condition, folding marks, creases, minor stains.

Advertisement poster for 1949 Passover issue of "Ha'aretz" newspaper. The first in a series of articles "For one month I have been a new immigrant" by Aryeh Gelblum was published in this issue. Gelblum (1921-1993) pretended to be an "Oleh Chadash" in order to experience the absorption of new immigrants in the young state. In a series of articles which he published following his experience he attacked the oriental Jews and in particular those of Morocco, their culture and customs. Gelblum called to stop the immigration of North African Jews since they might cause "Levantization of the country". Gelblum's words aroused a public polemic. 47X63 cm. Good condition. Folding marks, stains, minor stains and tears.

Three proclamations printed in the early days of the British Mandate in Eretz Israel. Jerusalem 1917-1920. Handwritten instructions for the printer appear on the three proclamations.
1. " In honor of the day of liberation", proclamation on behalf of the "Ashkenazic City Committee" in Jerusalem, on the first anniversary of the occupation of Jerusalem by the British [December 1918]. 26.5X38 cm. Good condition. Folding-marks, stains and creases.
2. "For the Cease Fire Day", proclamation on behalf of the City Committee for the Ashkenazic Community in Jerusalem". SHISH (Shlomo Israel Shirizli) printing press, [1917]. "Friday…November eleventh was declared by the government as the day of Cease Fire…the Jerusalemite public is therefore requested to declare this day as a day of prayer…". 44X33 cm. Good condition. Folding-marks, stains and minor tears.
3. "El HaYehudim", proclamation on behalf of Jerusalem rabbis. Luntz printing press, 1920. A prayer in honor of King George and a prayer in honor of Herbert Samuel. 29.5X46 cm. Good condition. Stains, creases, folding-marks, minor tears and tears professionally restored.

Edward (Ezra) J. Sperling – Jewish-Zionist author and journalist, native of Slutsk, Belarus (1889). Fear of pogroms led his family to immigrate to the USA when he was a child. In 1918 Sperling joined the Jewish Legion founded by Joseph Trumpeldor. When he was discharged he settled in Palestine where he married and had children (his first born son was named Joseph Trumpeldor Sperling). Worked for the British Mandate government as a writer and his office was in the King David Hotel. On July 22 1946, Sperling left his office and bumped into Etzel activists who were disguised as Sudanese waiters, shortly after hiding 350 Kg of explosives next to the supportive pillars of the building; Sperling was shot by one of the Etzel members, ran back into his office and was killed when the bomb exploded; was buried on the Mount of Olives.
Amongst the documents: folders with newspapers clippings with articles by Sperling; newspapers of the British Mandate period (in English) with articles by Sperling; about 30 personal documents and letters sent to Sperling (English and Yiddish) mainly from newspaper editors and from Jewish institutes, amongst them a letter from the High Commissioner Herbert Samuel (typewritten in Hebrew) with Samuel's signature. Lot of tens of items, sizes and conditions vary.

27 drawings – "Urban Assessment Block Plan" – mapping urban blocks and parcels in neighborhoods and districts in Hebron, 1937.
The drawings assess 31 blocks in 10 zones of the city, mostly Arab zones (one drawing shows the area of Jewish neighborhoods "Harat El Yahud Qtr."). Each drawing is attached to a leaf with handwritten comments; mapping was done in the framework of a survey conducted by the Mandate government, in 1930, and was altered and updated during the 1930s. Total of 27 sheets of average size 66X63 cm. Good condition. Tears and creases at borders.

Proclamation accusing the revisionist movement of inadequate conduct concerning the affair of Shlomo Ben Yossef who was the first of "Olei HaGardom". Ben Yossef was arrested following the attack on an Arab passengers' bus next to Safed and was executed on June 29 1938.
"…..while the Jewish Agency and all of the Yishuv institutes did everything possible to save Ben Yossef…the revisionists did everything possible for these efforts to fail…". 25X34.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, folding marks. Minor tear to one folding mark.
