A memorial notebook for philanthropists prepared for Rabbi Avraham Greenblatt, emissary for the "General Talmud Torah and Yeshiva for the Torah of Eretz Yisrael" of the Ridvaz. Safed, 1912.
Colored decorated title page. Printed regulation. At the beginning of the notebook are handwritten regulations. Signed by Rabbi "Naftali Chana'ls grandson of the Besht", Rabbi "Yosef Rabinowitz" and Rabbi "Yehuda Leib son of R' Sokolovsky".
* Letter signed by the Heads of the Yeshiva: Rabbi "Yosef Kanowitz" and the stamp of his father-in-law Rabbi "Ya'akov David Ridvaz". *Letter signed by heads of the community and public institutes in Safed with stamps illustrated with the institutes. * Letter handwritten and signed by the Chief Chacham Bashi of the Ottoman Empire, Rabbi Moshe Nachum of Constantinople "Chief Rabbi of the Turkish Empire'. * Letter written in German (unidentified signature). * Few entries of the institute's income and expenses.
Volume 22 cm. Notebook leaves bound from printed leaves with the yeshiva's logo from 190--. Most leaves are empty. Fair condition. Original semi-leather binding.

13 volumes. Notebook for each month of the year [Separate notebooks for Adar I and Adar 2]. Two pages allocated for each day of the year where name of deceased, name of father, year of death, name of relative, no. of letter sent, name of city and address, listed in orderly columns.
Contains hundreds of names from many places throughout the world. Apparently, used in one of charity or Torah institutions in city of Jerusalem.

Letter and List of People Supported by Kollel Holland Deutschland and Batei Machse in Jerusalem, to the philanthropists David Hershel and Yosef Boskowitz of Pest [Budapest]. Jerusalem, 1857. German.
Request for monetary assistance from the philanthropists mentioned above and their communities, for the poor residents of Jerusalem, especially for the families and widows of the Sefardi community. Rabbi Yochanan Hirsh Shlank, Azriel Zelig Housdorf and other names. Stamp of "Ahavat Zion Synagogue of Kollel Deutschland… Jerusalem".
* Attached to the letter is another leaf with a Hebrew list of the names of needy families, with the number of family members and a list of widows. Most are apparently Sefardi families.
The letter and the list of names were written on a thin bluish paper.

Pamphlet with copy of inscriptions and decision from the "notebook of places" regarding places of "Rabbi Leizer Segal" in the "Large Synagogue in the first women's section". Among the inscriptions is an explanation of the dispute over these places. The inscriptions are from 1821-1824 with the signature of "David the Small HaLevi Bettelheim".
Pamphlet of leaves, [4] written pages. 18 cm. Bound in original binding with paper labels of the name and location of the seat.

1. Trattato della Circoncisione, del Chiarissimo Chirurgo Operatore Dr. Samuel Medoro di Padua [The Foundations of Circumcision, by the renowned surgeon Dr. Samuel Medoro of Padua]. Italy, February-March 1838. Italy.
Handwritten notebook, written by a student of Samuel Medoro in the Rabbinical Beit Midrash in Padua, where Medoro taught.
The Jewish physician Prof. Samuel Medoro (1788-1854), received his training in the University of Padua, served as surgeon in the La Confraternità Israelitica "Sovvegno" di Padova which endowed medical assistance to Jews throughout Italy; publicized many medical articles. [9] pages + [1] enclosed leaf, 19.5 cm. Good condition. Tears to enclosed leaf.
2. Manuscript, copy of letters by Italian "scholars" and maskilim, supporting the abolishment of metzitzah during circumcision. Italy, 19th century, later than 1852. Italian.
Copies of letters sent during 1847-1852, expressing support of the abolishment of metzitzah. The following letters are included: an opinion by Dr. Samuel Medoro, for the students of the Rabbinical Beit Midrash of Padua (Nov. 18, 1847); letter by Hillel L. Della Torre, rabbi and teacher of theology in the Rabbinical Beit Midrash of Padua (June 24, 1849); letter by Mordechai (Marco) Samuel Ghirondi of Padua with approbations of David Chananya (D. G. R.) Viterbi and Shmuel David Lutzatto; letters by Aryeh (Leon) Ascoli, Abraham Lattes, Shabtai Elchanan (Sabbato Graziadio) Treves, Yitzchak Shmuel Reggio, Moshe Asson; letter written in Piemonte on September 10, 1848 by Hillel Cantoi and copied on October 1851 from the archive of the Padua community by the request of Eliyahu Pisa of Ferrara, and with the authorization of the Community Secretary Avraham Shalom; written further in the letter that beginning with the month of November 1851, the Chief Rabbis Ascoli and Reggio have abolished metzitza in the city of Ferrara; the last letter from Masadye (Bounajuto) Gallico was written for Moshe Eliyahu ben Zecharya Pisa of Ferrara.

Fine scribe writing (in Rashi writing, headings in square vowelized writing). Vowelized poem on page opposite title page (“LeMi Oy? LeMi Avoi?...”).
Great composition by Moshe Orenstein (1839-1906), former Sadigura Chassid who became a famous enlightenist. Resided in Chortkiv and was among opposers of Sadigura. He took an active role in the affair related to Rabbi Dov Ber of Leova. Several of his compositions were printed; this manuscript was apparently not printed.

Leopold Löw (1811-1875), historian and neological rabbi. Was considered founder of Hungarian reform movement and was the first to sermonize in the Hungarian language in synagogue [these sermons are from first period of service in Szeged].
* Letter from Leopold Löw, and three letters from his son Dr. Emanuel Löw (1854-1944), neological rabbi, linguist, botanist and known researcher, who was appointed as chief rabbi of Szeged following the demise of his father. (Hungarian).
