Sefer Halachot Gedolot. Venice, 1548. First edition
Sefer Halachot Gedolot was written in the time of the Geonim and is one of the first halachic books written after the Talmud was sealed. The identity of its author [called: Bahag = Ba'al Halachot Gedolot] was disputed among the Rishonim who often quote him. Some attribute the work to Rabbi Yehudai Gaon and others to Rabbi Shimon Keira. On the title page of this book the words of the Smag are quoted: "Rabbi Yehudai Gaon wrote Halachot Gedolot", and on the reverse side of the title page a special article is printed about the identity of the author [see further the introduction to the Rosh Troib editions, Warsaw 1875; in the introduction to the edition of Rabbi Ezriel Hildesheimer, Berlin 1888; and in the Bibliography Institute CD Listing 0127157). This is a complete copy of the first printed edition.

Dozens of glosses, erasures and corrections in Oriental writing [Turkey?]. Majority of glosses consist of additions and corrections in version of responses. Apparently, the proofreader based the revisions upon a manuscript from which he copied. At least some of the glosses were not printed (or mentioned) in the revised edition of the Rosh Responsa in publication of Yitzchak Yudlov, Machon Yerushalayim (1994). Stamps indicating that book belonged to "Library of Rabbi Amado".

* Sefer Be'urim, on Rashi commentsry on the Torah, by Rabbi Natan Shapira from Horodna. Contains several illustrations: map of land of Israel, ladder of Ya’akov, Menorah of the Temple and more. [Handwritten gloss in Italian writing].
This is a forged book. At the height of the printing of the original book Imrei Shefer in Krakow [between years 1590-1597], this commentary, whose author is unknown, was printed in the name of Rabbi Natan Shapiro, as related by his son in the introduction of the book Imrei Shefer. This resulted in the banning of the book by rabbis of Poland [see attached material].
All three books bound together in ancient elegant leather binding. Unidentified signature from 1698. First two title pages contain signatures “Chaim Hirsch son of Rabbi Meir Berlin”. The Ga’on Rabbi No’ach Chaim Tzvi Berlin (1734-1802), Dayan in Fürth and Av Beit Din of Metz and Hamburg; well-known as giant of his generation. In a response, Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin wrote to him: “His opinion is as valuable to me as the opinion of one of the Rishonim” (Chut HaMeshulash, clause 9). His significant and well-known books are: Ma’ayan HaChochma, Atzei Almogim and Atzei Arazim. [Composed additional book, Atzei Besamim, on Even Ha’Ezer which was not published, see Kedem catalogue, auction 6, item 399].
