In his letters, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson of Lubavitch (Letter b 853), mentions the book Shnei Luchot HaBrit that was printed in 1698 (458 = nachat in numerical value) in an elegant edition. He notes that this is a sign from above that the revelation of this holy book caused "nachat" [satisfaction] above, and that same year the Ba’al Shem Tov was born. The Ba’al Shem Tov stated that he was born in the year that the Shla book was printed to illuminate the world with the light of the Almighty, with Torah and reverence and service of the heart.
Copy missing at beginning: 264-422, 44, [12] leaves, (originally: [4], 422, 44, [12] leaves). 29 cm. Varying condition; majority of leaves in good condition. Ancient leather binding, torn.

Zera Shimshon, sermons on the Torah and the five Megillot, by Rabbi Shimshon Chaim ben Nachman Michael Nachmani. Mantua, [1778].
Rabbi Shimshon Chaim Nachmani (1706-1779, Otzar HaGedolim 20083) an Italian Torah scholar and mekubal. Taught Torah in Modena and Mantua and had disciples who served in the rabbinate of a number of Italian communities. Also wrote the book Toldot Shimshon on Tractate Avot. The Chida writes that he was well-versed in practical Kabbalah and commanded his Kabalistic works to be buried in his grave (Shem HaGedolim, chapter "Ma'arechet Sefarim", Letter 46). See attached material.
In his introduction to the book, the author urges "in ten languages of prayer" to study his book, and blesses the person who does so that "The One Who Repays should pay in this merit a good imbursement for those who do that true chessed with the three blessings of children, life and livelihood". Further in the introduction the author writes that since his only son died and he was left without any children, he called his book Zera Shimshon (Seed of Shimshon). He promises "And your eyes shall see your children and grandchildren like olive plants around your table, wise and clever and homes full with all good, also wealth and also honor shall not leave your children until 'They shall see G-d's honor…'".

Rabbi Moshe Shlomo Harkavi, a renowned Torah scholar and a leader of the Novardok community, son of Rabbi Gershon Harkavi of Novardok and Safed (died in c. 1828, was a scholar form the "Vilna Ga'on's Kloiz" and one of the founders of the" Beit Midrash HaGra" in Safed), father of the Harkavi family famous in Russia, which has rabbis, learned men and public figures. Includes leaves printed in the 15th and 16th century [Arba Turim, Soncino 1490; Yalkut Shimoni, Soncino 1521-1527; Binyamin Ze'ev responsa, Venice 1539; etc]; dozens of leaves of several editions of the Babylonian Talmud, unidentified (some apparently from the Thessaloniki printing); some leaves are proof leaves and printing trials [from the 16th-17th century – Gemara pages from an unknown edition and pages from "Ne'eman Shmuel" (Thessaloniki, 1723) are printed in one of the pamphlets], with proofreaders' handwritten corrections [one leaf has the signature "Avraham Amarilio", apparently Rabbi Avraham Amarilio of Thessaloniki, author of Brit Avraham].

Composed by Rabbi Menachem ben Zerach, among scholars of Spain during the 14th century and disciple of Rabbi Yehudah son of the "Rosh" (Asher ben Yechiel). Contains laws and customs for all days of the year. Lengthy introduction to book contains important details pertaining to "Ba’alei HaTosfot" and greatest "Rishonim" as well as to period of author. The author states that the book is intended for “those who follow the court of the King’s majesty… who due to the trials and tribulations of the time… become lax in fulfillment of the commandments…”.
Flag of printer which appears in center of title page, printed again on last leaf with colophon: “Completed here in Ferrara in home of esteemed Rabbi Avraham ben Oski”.
Signature upon title page of book: “Yom Tov Elyakim”, apparently Rabbi Yom Tov Elyakim (1770-1846), rabbi of Sofia and toward the end of his days rabbi of Jewish community of Hebron (see attached material). Several [cut off] glosses.

In this copy, as in majority of copies, leaves 33-37 containing commentary on "Birkat HaMinim", were omitted for censorship reasons, and replaced with three leaves containing brief version without pagination [see article of Yitzchak Rivkind, "Sefer HaYovel" in honor of Alexander Marx, New York, 1950, p. 416; and article of S. Hasida, "Birkat HaMinim" in "Sefer Tzeida LaDerech", Moriah collection, Tishrei 5773 (2013), pp. 15-17].
