1. Bowl, gift for a groom. [Germany], [first half of 19th century]. Cast engraved pewter. Stamped on underside. Wedding gift dedication engraved on the edges: "Mazal tov… 1845, the bridegroom Yitchak Fleiner". Above the word "Fleiner" the letter "shin" is engraved, apparently to correct an error in the engraving of the last name, possibly Fleishner or Fleisher.

Charity box with an outstretched hand. [Apparently, Bohemia, late 19th - early 20th century].
Cast metal; tin-brass; sawn and impressed brass.
Rectangular box for collecting charity. The cover is lined with tin-brass, inscribed on its four corners is the verse "A gift in secret pacifies anger" (Proverbs 21, 14). Rising from the center of the cover is an outstretched hand. The inscription "Tzedaka" appears in the center of the hand and above it is a slot for inserting coins.
Width: 20 cm. length: 14 cm. height (including hand): 25.5 cm.

Copper, hammering and etching. Water container for hanging on a wall, with basin hung underneath for collecting the water.
The container is designed like a bell, with a removable cover for filling. At the bottom are two brass faucets. Etched on the container are "Al Netilat Yadayim" and the shape of "Cohanim's" hands. The acronym C.K. ["Chevra Kadisha"] is etched on the basin.
In Eastern European communities, it was customary to hang such a device at the entrance to the Synagogue for ritual hand-washing as preparation for prayer and for "Cohanim "before blessing the congregation.
Height of container: 28 cm. Maximum width: 31 cm. Height of basin: 20 cm. Width: 35 cm.

Beaten work of a form of a fish on bottom (can be seen from inside and outside of vessel). Fish motifs on a vessel for hand washing are a known custom among Eastern European Jews. Apparently, it was a symbol of protection from evil spirits and demons which according to tradition exist near water.

Three bronze mortars, with a pestle. Baghdad.
Kabalistic inscriptions, folk art engraving on mortars, circularly engraved: Name of 42 (letters), the prayer "Ana B'koach", verses and incantations [against "ayin hara", for good livelihood]. Illustrations for "segulot": menorah, shofar, scale, fish. On one of the mortars is "Tefillat HaDerech" (prayer for the road) and a verse for protection "Ben Porat Yosef…".
The name of the giver is engraved on all the mortars, "Rabbi Sasson Barzani". One mortar has a dedication, "Gift to Ya'akov ben Miriam, Rabbi Sasson Barzani, Arbiel Baghdad, 1903". A similar inscription is on the pestle.
