Manuscript leaves, written in the stages of preparation of the book “Eifat Tzedek” on halachic measures, in the handwriting of the author, Rabbi Ya'akov Yisrael Kanievsky (the “Steipler”), author of “Kehillot Ya'akov”. Before 1949. The book “Eifat Tzedek”, written at the height of the halachic polemic between the “Chazon Ish” together with his brother-in-law the “Steipler”, and Rabbi Chaim Na'eh of Jerusalem, on the matter of measurements. Following the opinion of the Chazon Ish that the measure of an amah and a revi'it are larger than the measures publicized by Rabbi Chaim Na'eh in his book “Shiurei Torah”, the Steipler wrote his book “Shiurin D'Orayta” by the request of his brother-in-law proving that the law is according to the Chazon Ish.
Rabbi Chaim Na'eh responded with his book “Sha'arei Zion” where he attacks the Steipler's claims and proofs. The Steipler responded with his book Eifat Tzedek (1949). In the introduction he writes: "Now the book Shiurei Zion written by the Gaon author of Shiurei Torah was brought to me and its entire purpose is to object to my words and my book Shiurin D'Orayta…". And indeed, in this book he sharply responds to the objections of Rabbi Chaim Na'eh.
Only after the death of the Chazon Ish and Rabbi Chaim Na'eh in 1954, did the Steipler republish his final opinion in the book “Shiurin Shel Torah”, Jerusalem, 1957, where he included all his opinions on the subject of the measurements of mitzvot, without the words of polemic found in his two previous books.
These are draft leaves of the book “Eifat Tzedek” with changes from the printed version. A photocopy is attached for comparison.
[4] leaves, written on one side. 22 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. One leaf had tears with minor damage to text.

Handwritten sources for shiurim, handwritten by Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, Head of Mir Yeshiva.
Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz (1902-1979), grandson of the “Saba” of Novardok and son-in-law of Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, served many years as Head of Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. A Torah giant mainly renowned for his diligence and ingenious shiurim that included many Talmudic topics. Some of his books: Sichot Mussar, Sha'arei Chaim. In his memory, “Sefer HaZikaron L'Hagaon Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz” was published.
Rabbi Chaim's shiurim in the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem attracted a large crowd from all the study halls of Jerusalem. In spite of his genius way of thinking, Rabbi Chaim was meticulous never to speak in public without careful advance preparation thought through to the last detail. Possibly, this was the reason that he always wrote the sources in a set form. He generally wrote the sources in six lines with an equal amount of words to each line. (See Mo'ach VaLev pp. 82, 87).
[Attached are three booklets, typewritten, with notes of Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz's shiurim].
Four leaves, various sizes. 6 lines to each leaf. Overall good condition, foxing.

Handwritten notebook, “Nitzotzei Sela”, novellae on Talmudic aggadot. Rabbi Chaim Finkelstein. Paris, 1935.
Ideas and original ethical explanations on Talmudic aggadot. Printed in the book “Shvilei Chaim” (Jerusalem 1997), with the omission of the version on the title page written by the author at the top of the notebook. Manuscript, in fine square writing, “Slichot – recited by Chevra Kadisha on day preceding Rosh Chodesh Nisan”. Kazimierz (Poland), 1860.
Anthology of Slichot contains special supplication for members of Chevra Kadisha beginning with: “Our G-d and G-d of our forefathers, we, members of the holy association of undertakers have chosen one day on which to fast… due to our concern with the sacred bodies: The association, which buries the dead, is apprehensive as to whether we dealt with the dead with the proper respect, we are filled with trepidation…”.
Various customs were practiced throughout the Diaspora on the day of fasting and Slichot for members of Chevra Kadisha. In many places it was customary to fast on 7th of Adar [yahrzheit of Moshe Rabbeinu]; in countries of Lithuania the prevalent custom was to fast on 15th of Kislev or 20th of Kislev. This custom of fasting on day preceding Rosh Chodesh Nisan which was practiced in the city of Kazimierz in Poland is less common. Manuscript contains unknown short songs of Slichot; majority of which deal with matters of undertakers and burial customs.
Eighteen pages, 16 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and stains. New fine binding.
