Sefer Eliyahu Rabbah, on Mishnayot Taharot by Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna. Prague, 1812. Beginning of book contains 6 leaves of subscribers which are not included in majority of copies.
[1], [6], 47 leaves. 21 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and stains.
The six leaves containing subscriber lists were apparently added by publisher Rabbi “Shmuel HaKatan”, from book “Har HaCarmel” by Rabbi Shimon Oppenheim which Rabbi “Shmuel HaKatan” printed that year in Prague. It contains 7 subscriber leaves at beginning; on last leaf it specifically states that they are intended for the book Har HaCarmel, and therefore they were not attached to this book. See attached photocopies. [The “Har HaCarmel” copy which appears in the Hebrew-Books collection contains the seven leaves, whereas the Otzar-HaChochma collection contains only the seventh leaf – see attached photocopy].
For additional information about publisher Rabbi “Shmuel HaKatan” [Klein] and hisiniquity in the printing of the books of the Vilna Ga’on, which included forgeries, ascription of prefaces and lists of subscribers which were not granted to him for the printing of the books, see Sefer “Otzar Sifrei HaGra” [treasury of books of Vilna Ga’on] of Yeshaya Winograd, [foreword pages 12, and pages 13-14; 21; 31; 48]. See additional criticism alluded to in article “Sof Davar” by Rabbi Shlomo Brevda, at end of his book on commentary of Vilna Ga’on on Shir HaShirim, Brooklyn, 2006, pp. 427-428.
