You cannot joke while Hitler destroys our people…the released soldiers who fulfilled their duty, cannot watch peacefully how you work and eat and enjoy life – while they and their children are starving…your son will ask you in future: 'you evaded your duties when Hitler murdered Jews? What will you answer?" 31X47 cm. Good condition. Stains, folding marks. Paper underwent a restoration and preservation process.

Approximately 500 letters sent to and written by Meir Saltzman, a soldier in the Jewish Brigade. 1940-s.
Most of the letters are handwritten, on unlined paper leaves; some are written on Jewish Brigade stationary. Sent to and received from his parents and friends during his army service in the Mechanical & Electrical Coy 544, and they describe his experiences throughout his service, from the time he reached Egypt, during his move to Italy until his preparations for his return home. Mechanical & Electrical Coy 544 was active in Egypt and in the western desert, where it was responsible to activate the water supply system built by the British. In the beginning of 1945, the division reached Southern Italy and dealt with the maintenance of electric and water facilities and hospitals. The division was dismantled in 1946. Letters from the 1950-s are attached. Total of some 500 letters. Varied size and condition.

A New Year greeting with an illustration of a cut down tree (this motif appears in various publications of the She'erit HaPleita conventions in the American Zone in Germany. The conventions were held in Bad Reichenhall). On the reverse appears a handwritten dedication (in pencil) from the DPC in Bad Reichenhall of 1947. From the collection of Doron Herzog.

Letters from friends and relatives; including much information about the Independence War occurring at the same time, mainly about the situation in Jerusalem and Holon : " more than once did I sit down to write and was disturbed by shooting and bombing around me. The shooting is heard day and night and sometimes it turns into a real attack and battle between the fighting forces". Three letters are written on Aérogrammes.
5. "El Hazipor / Bialik's version / Stress on first syllable" by L. Pram. A single leaf, typewritten. Printed by Kabalat Shabat in [teachers]seminary in Bad Reichenhall 16.7.1948". This is an interesting variation on Haim Nachman Bialik's poem "El Hazipor" integrating in the original framework of the poem scenes and jokes from the life of Jewish emissaries to the camp.
Size varies. Generally – good condition.

"Megilat Haman", humorous play for Purim divided into three short scenes, comparing between the two enemies – Haman and Hitler. Amongst the participants: King "Deutchblirosh", Haman, Hitler, Gering,' Goebbels, Himmler and an Allied Forces soldier. It seems that the play was composed by a Jewish Brigade soldier. See previous item. [12] leaves + [4] leaves (four copies, each consisting of three leaves; four draft leaves). Good condition. Staining, folding-marks, minor tears at margin.
