Zepellin above Jerusalem, large photo. Jerusalem, [ca. 1931].
The German Zepellin "Graf Zepellin" was launched and flew for the first time in 1928 for experimental and demonstration flights, to pave the way for passengers flights and regular air-mail flights. In 1928 the Zepellin flew to the USA and later visited Italy, Spain and Eretz Israel. The photo is mounted on cardboard; on its lower part appears a sticker of a Jerusalem photo studio: A. Jeheskely Photo Jerusalem. Photo 44X27 cm mounted on cardboard 64X40.5 cm. Fair-poor condition. Significant tear at lower part and upper right corner of the photo. Damages. Tears and stains to cardboard.

~97 photos documenting the training activities of the Jewish company in the Chinese regiment of the Shanghai Volunteers Corps (SVC – Shanghai Volunteer Corps) during the second China-Japan war. [Mid 1930s to early 1940s]. The photos belonged to David Lubovitch Ozeriansky, a soldier in the company; including a portrait photo of Ozeriansky, wearing on his collar a pin of the SVC. Size varies, average: 6X8.5 cm.
~Two member-cards of the "Tsindau Jewish congregation" issued in 1944; one in the name of David Lubovitch Ozeriansky and the other in the name of Michael Lubovitch Ozeriansky. Worn covers.
~Four calling-cards of the Ozeriansky family of Shanghai: two of Michael Ozeriansky (Manager of purchasing Dept. of China Barium Chemical Works) of Shanghai. A scarce, early, metal and enamel pin with the Beitar "Kadima" emblem and four early Beitar Riga-related photographs. Riga, Latvia, [1920s].
The Beitar movement was founded in Riga, Latvia in 1923 by Ze'ev Jabotinsky. The items in this lot are from the first few years of the movement's existence in Riga. The lot includes: a postcard-sized group photo of Beitar Riga members holding a rifle and a sign with the movement's emblem – a seven-branched Menorah with the text "Kadima" (annotated on the reverse "Beitar Riga, grade 2, 1928"); a large group photograph (17.5X23.5 cm); two smaller photographs; a blue enamel pin with the same Beitar "Kadima" emblem as seen in the photograph (diameter 2 cm). Sizes and conditions of the photographs vary; the pin in very good condition.

Album portraying the activity of the group in Llandough Castle and in Great Engeham Farm: agriculture, taking care of animals, atmosphere (Hora dancing), etc. The group consisted of youngsters who fled Germany and found shelter in England; some of them, at the end, arrived in Kibbutz Ma'ayan Zvi (through Detention Camps in Cyprus). Some of the photos are ink stamped by the photographer Paul Henning. Illustrations appear on the album's leaves. Total of 62 photos + 24 detached photos, sizes vary, average size 9 X14.5 cm. Cloth album 27.5X37 cm, worn binding.

A large and impressive photo-album, presented as a gift to Yitzchak Melamed when he retired after 25 years from his position as Director of the Public Works Department. Jerusalem,1944.
Yitzchak Melamed was born in Odessa in 1900. At the age of 11 he was sent to Eretz Israel, to study in Rosh Pina. Later, his mother and brother joined him. Continued his studies in Herzlia gymnasium. His family was exiled to Egypt during WW I (because of their Russian citizenship) where he studied in a French gymnasium and was granted a French matriculation certificate. Returned with his family in 1919 as a civil servant in the Mandate's government and was promoted to the highest position of a local Jewish civil servant – Director of the Public Works Department and deputy director of the treasury. In 1940 was decorated as M.B.E. – Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire on behalf of King George VI. Served as the Civil Service Commissioner and councellor to the Civil Service Commissioner. Died in Jerusalem in 1968.
Album includes: * Twenty photos of senior role holders in the Mandate Government and group photos of Public Works workers in various cities (Gaza, Nablus, Haifa, Jaffa, etc), engineers, architects and other colleagues. *Two professional photos from Jaffa and Acre, most probably taken by Joseph Schweig. *Four large illustrations in color, portraying Melamed's work, accompanied by greetings and short poems. Attached are several personal documents: Permit to Enter Palestine, in the name of Melamed; invitation to the King's birthday party, which was held in the High Commissioner's palace; an elaborate certificate issued by King George VI, certifying that Melamed is a "Member of the British Empire"; A letter handwritten by Edwin Samuel, son of High Commissioner Herbert Samuel; an early handwritten document (in French), signed: Yitzchak Melamed, Rosh Pina", [ca. 1911]. Additional items. Lot of 22 photos, 4 illustrations and 10 documents. Average size of photos: 23.5X15.5 cm. Album 47 cm. Good condition.

All are stamped on reverse side with the photographer's stamp except one. Varied size, 12X17 cm. until 15X20.5 cm. Overall good condition. Minor damages to margins of several photographs.
