On the front cover sawing-work: Etzel emblem (map of Greater Israel) behind bars; on the back cover an etching: a chained prisoner, raising a burning torch behind a torn barbed-wire fence. On the inner side of the front cover appears a handwritten dedication: to Rachel, souvenir from my detention. Moshe. Emek Ayalon (Latron), Tevet, 1947. Album 31X16.5 cm. Good condition. Album was in use but contains no photos.

Printed proclamation, "Order issued by IDF in Jerusalem". The brigade printing press, Jerusalem, July 16, 1948.
Operation "Kedem" was carried out at night, between July 16 and 17. This was the last attempt during the Independence War to capture the Old City of Jerusalem. The operation failed and the forces withdrew.
"Officers, soldiers, tonight you have to carry out the historic mission: capturing Jerusalem between the walls. Jerusalem is the nation's heart, G-d's temple, symbol of our glory…will be liberated tonight by a Jewish army. The eyes of our people, of the whole world, are looking at you now. Remember: you break through the walls, to liberate the holy city…remember: Jerusalem is holy for other religions as well…desecration of holy place will stain this operation…". 21X33 cm. Good condition. Staining, folding-marks, minor tears.

2. The State of Israel, the Provisional Government, "Entrance Ticket to the State Council Meetings" [November 1948]. This ticket was valid for a meeting held on November 11 1948 and bears the name of Mr. Gershon Rivlin. 12X8 cm. Good condition. Creases.

This scarce grouping of the first fifty issues of the official newspaper of the State of Israel contains a great deal of information about the young state, the emergency situation into which it was born and the organization of various institutions in the first year of its existence. Issue no. 1, issued on the Day of Independence, contains the first official printing of the text of Israel's Declaration of Independence ("Hachrazat HaAtzma'ut," also known as "Megillat HaAtzma'ut," the Scroll of Independence).
Issue no. 1 (4 pp, 33 cm), printed on lighter paper, is in Very Good condition; the other issues in Good condition. Foxing to edges. Two filing holes on the right edge of all issues.
