A comprehensive study on the subject of Hebrew literature. The first and third volume deal with rabbis and Jewish authors, and contain a list of names (Hebrew and Latin). The second and fourth volume deal with the Bible, Talmud and Kabala. At the beginning of the first volume, opposite the title page is an etching of a library. At the beginning of the second and fourth volume appear etchings of the author's portrait.
Johann Christoph Wolf (1683-1739) was a Hebraist and collector from German descent. In 1712, he was appointed professor of literature and Oriental languages in the University of Hamburg. Wolf devoted time to research Hebrew literature, especially the collection of David ben Avraham Oppenheim. These four volumes of Bibliotheca Hebraea are based on this study. A complete set of four volumes, 22 cm. Good condition. Stains. Restored bindings, with leather spines.
