Bibliotheca Hebraea, Johann Christoph Wolf. Printed by Christian Liebezeit (Volume 1), Printed by Theodor Christoph Felginer (Volumes 2-4). Hamburg and Leipzig, 1715-1733. Four volumes. Latin with a little Hebrew.
A comprehensive study on the subject of Hebrew literature. The first and third volume deal with rabbis and Jewish authors, and contain a list of names (Hebrew and Latin). The second and fourth volume deal with the Bible, Talmud and Kabala. At the beginning of the first volume, opposite the title page is an etching of a library. At the beginning of the second and fourth volume appear etchings of the author's portrait.
Johann Christoph Wolf (1683-1739) was a Hebraist and collector from German descent. In 1712, he was appointed professor of literature and Oriental languages in the University of Hamburg. Wolf devoted time to research Hebrew literature, especially the collection of David ben Avraham Oppenheim. These four volumes of Bibliotheca Hebraea are based on this study. A complete set of four volumes, 22 cm. Good condition. Stains. Restored bindings, with leather spines.

A bibliographic listing and a comprehensive research about tens of Hebrew manuscripts: the Bible, Talmud and scholarly books in a library in Odessa. At the end of the book are three plates with a lithographic facsimile of the book of Habbakuk manuscript from the year 916. An additional manuscript appears at the beginning of the book with comments and additions, in German and in Hebrew; attached is a leaf with a copied ancient manuscript from the Book of Jeremiah. 92 pp, [3] folded plates, 28 cm. The introduction to the first issue says: "Hebrew papers that appear now have a limited goal: political or religious. This journal's aim is to assist in establishing bridges between the various trends in Judaism and unite them on a common basis…this journal is for the Jewish home and Jewish family – both of which have always been like a fortress for Judaism".
The journal includes many articles about art. Amongst the artists: Marc Chagall, Max Liebermann, Channah Orloff, Maurici Gottlieb, Ya'akov Steinhardt and others; the writers and authors include Dubnov, Isaak Babel, Achad Ha'am, Meir Balaban, Sholem Asch, Arthur Schnitzler and others.
