Extensive collection of personal letters and documents belonging to Amnon Ish-Shalom (b. 1925), who served in the Palmach and the Royal British Navy. [1940s].
Ish-Shalom fougt in Gush Etzion with the Jerusalem HISH companies. Ish-Shalom suffered a head injury and was taken as prisoner by the Jordanians upon the Gush Etzion surrender, one day prior to the declaration of the State of Israel. He was discharged from prison on February 22 1949. Later in time Ish-Shalom founded the "Ein Bokek" hotel on the shore of the Dead Sea.
Presented here are numerous personal certificates and military documents as well as a collection of letters sent to Ish-Shalom during the 1940s, most of them sent by friends and family, part of the letters were sent during World War II and during the 1948 war, by friends who served in various military forces; letters sent by Ish-Shalom to his family and to his lover Rachel Goldman during the 1940s. Many of the letters were sent during Ish-Shalom's service in the British navy. Various sizes and conditions, general condition - good. About 240 letters (with various markings by the censor); about 30 documents, mostly military; several additional items.

Two Bristol-paper cards, each of which was used as an envelope for an invitation to one of four sessions of Moetzet HaAm, which were held between May 4 1948 and May 14 1948.
1. Moetzet HaAm, guest-card, first session, Tel-Aviv, 4.5.48. On the reverse the addressee's name was erased. 10.5 cm. Good condition. Minor stains.
2. Moetzet HaAm, declaration of Independence session, Tel-Aviv, 14.5.1947. On the reverse the addressee's name was erased, a member in the Zionist executive board, only a label is pasted with his seat: raw 1, fourth seat from the right. 14.3 cm. Good condition.
Moetzet HaAm - the legislative entity of the Yishuv, appointed towards the end of the British Mandate period. Moetzet HaAm consisted of 37 members, amongst them members of the National Committee and the Jewish Agency as well as representatives of other organizations. Moetzet HaAm was active for ten days until the declaration of the State of Israel when its name was changed to the Provisional State Council. On May 4 1948 the first Moetzet HaAm held a session for the first time and was active altogether for 10 days and held four meetings. The last meeting was held on May 14 1948 when it declared the establishment of the State of Israel. The members of Moetzet HaAm signed the Scroll of Independence. Twenty five of them signed during the ceremony while the others who could not arrive from besieged Jerusalem added their signatures later. The declaration stated that Moetzet HaAm becomes the Provisional State Council.
