Maimonides' Mishna commentary, Seder Taharot. Napoli, 1492. Yehoshua Shlomo Soncino. First edition.
Thousands of glosses, correcions, additions and omissions, scholarly remarks and illustrations in old, legible Oriental handwriting from the time of print. Based on the content, it is obvious that all of the above was written by an outstanding Torah scholar who learned the Seder Taharot in great depth. There are also a couple of captions and inscriptions in Yemenite handwriting [from later times, c. 17th century].
This first edition of the Maimonides Mishna commentary on Seder Taharot is known to have many errors and missing parts, all editions following this one were copied from the present edition with its mistakes, except for additions later made in the Venice editions of 1546 and Mantua 1563. The present manuscript contains numerous corrections and additions, most of which do not appear in any other edition.
Compared to the translated versions printed recently [the Kappach and Korach versions], the present manuscript seems far more precise both in the commentary translation and depiction.
The present manuscript with its additions and corrections was copied from earlier and more precise versions of that manuscript, from translations of the Mishna commentary written at the time of the Rishonim and it contains numerous additions that can't be found in any other edition.
Complete copy, [86] leaves. 36 cm. Fair condition, extensive, professionally restored moth damage with paper paste and fillings. White, luxurious leather binding.
