Passover Haggadah. Artisan Works Coy. 745 [Solel Boneh], Mechanical & Electrical Coy. 544. Italy, 1945.
Non-traditional Haggadah. Handwritten and typewritten, duplicated in lithographic printing, with nice illustrations (illustration on the title page is signed "M.A."). On the last leaf are printed the names of the companies and an illustration of tools.
The Artisan Works Coy. R.E. 745, was established in the summer of 1942 and named "Solel Boneh Company" since it consisted of a group of volunteers who worked for "Solel Boneh". After serving in Egypt, in the Western Desert and in Tripoli and constructing camps, restoring bridges and installing water-lines, the company was sent in March 1944 to Italy and built three army camps in Naples. Following the Alliesג€™ victory, the company was transferred to Milan and in early 1946 returned to the Middle East in preparation for the release of its members.
The Mechanical & Electrical Coy. 544 acted in Egypt and in the Western Desert where it operated the water supply system installed by the British. The company was split into small units scattered along hundreds of kilometers of the water pipe. Early in 1945 the company was transferred to southern Italy and was in charge of maintenance of electrical installations, water supply and hospitals. The company was dismantled in 1946.
Fine Bristol paper cover (not original?), written and illustrated by hand. It was probably made by one of the soldiers in 1945 in order to protect the body of the Haggadah. The names of the companies were handwritten on the back cover and a stamp postmarked 1945 is pasted. [1], 16, [1] leaf (not including the cover), 21.5x17 cm. Good condition. Stains, creases and minor tears to cover.

Passover Haggadah. The religious company. [Religious Company of the Combat Corps]. Ben-Shemen, 1948.
The Ben-Shemen Youth Village and Moshav were besieged and attacked during the entire War of Independence period. In March 1948 the fighters of the Religious Company of the Combat Corps Tel Aviv [the Haganah Combat Corps] were summoned to Ben-Shemen. Supplies were provided by a light "Primus" plane. On the eve of Pesach 1948 the siege was tightened and the soldiers did not know whether Passover Haggadot would be delivered. The members of the company hurried to type the Haggadah presented here on a typewriter and duplicate it. The Haggadah opens with: "This ג€˜Haggadah' was written due to a shortage of Haggadot in the Ben-Shemen base. The siege made it impossible to obtain 'Haggadot'". At the end: "At the time when we were writing the final lines of this ג€˜Haggadahג€™, on the afternoon before Pesach, a plane arrived which brought us Haggadot. Therefore let this ג€˜Haggadahג€™ be a remembrance of the deliberations of the company in the Ben Shemen base, Pesach 1948."
"Operation Dany" on July 11, by Kiryati Brigade forces ended the siege on Ben Shemen. This Haggadah remains as testimony to the siege on Ben Shemen.
On the reverse of the fourth leaf, one of the soldiers noted, by hand, updates about current affairs in Israel and in the world, which he probably heard on the radio: "The Police building in Manshiyya was (deserted) abandoned", "treaty between Russia and Holland was confirmed", "A food supply convoy passed yesterday to Mount Scopus", and more. [5] leaves typewritten and stenciled, 33.5 cm. Good condition. Stains, minor tears at borders. Folded in half.
