Title page and leaf 18/1 contain stamps of Rabbi"Feivel Plaut" author of Likutei Chaver Ben Chaim. Leaves of book contain hundreds of handwritten glosses, mostly in pencil [printed in the Rambam edition of Chatam Sofer Institute].
The Ga'on Rabbi Chizkiya Feivel Plaut (1818-1895), among the greatest disciples of the Chatam Sofer, was connected to him in heart and soul. He composed the eleven volumes of Likutei Chaver Ben Chaim, in which he incorporated his Torah together with the Torah of his Rabbi the Chatam Sofer which he printed for the first time. Served as Av Beit Din of Shoran for approximately fifty years.
130, 129-130, [2] leaves; [1]; 141 leaves (separate title page for Sefer Kedusha). 41 cm. Good condition, stains. Wear on first and last leaves, scotch tape repairs. Few moth stains on inner binding. Ancient semi-leather binding, worn.

Several scholarly glosses in his handwriting appear on the book sheets. [Except for two glosses signed by"Menachem" in the handwriting of his grandson Rabbi Menachem Nathan Auerbach of Jerusalem]. The glosses are slightly cut.
Gaon Rabbi Meir Auerbach (1815-1878), ABD of Kalish, among the leading sages of his generation. Son of Rabbi Yitzchak Itzk Auerbach ABD of Luntshitz author of the"Divrei Chaim" and grandson of Rabbi Chaim Auerbach ABD of Luntshitz author of the"Divrei Mishpat". Moved to Israel in 1859 where he became the first officially appointed Rabbi of Jerusalem's Ashkenazi community. Became known through his book"Imrei Binah". Rabbi Moshe Nachum Wallenstein (1840-1922, Otzar HaRabbanim 15588), native of Papa, Hungary; he was a disciple of the Ktav Sofer, from whom he received rabbinic ordination. In 1864 he immigrated to Jerusalem and married the daughter of Rabbi Shimon Deutsch, disciple of the Chatam Sofer. Was leader of the Hungarian Jewry in Jerusalem. Appointed as Dayan in the Beit Din of the Maharil Diskin in 1889, and in 1908 was appointed as Av Beit Din of Jerusalem. Author of Bnei Moshe Responsa.

Two books of responsa with glosses and comments handwritten by Rabbi David Sperber: 1) Responsa She'elat Shalom, second edition, by Rabbi Shalom Toibesh. Lemberg, 1885. * 2) Responsa Chesed L'Avraham, second edition, two parts and insights on the Rambam, by Rebbe Avraham David, the Gaon of Buchach. Lemberg, 1898.
Two letters were found between the leaves of the books that were sent to Rabbi David Sperber; one a letter with a halachic query by Rabbi Matityahu Yechezkel Gutman Rabbi of Buhuֵi and Leova with particularly interesting content: "There is a tradition in our family from our grandfather Rabbi Liber The Great of Berdichev (he lived in the time of the Besht and was the grandson of the Rabbi of Ostropoli) not to marry a Cohen¦ the testament was not recorded¦ and the reason that was passed down was that we are descended from David and have the quality of kingship, and kingship and priesthood are not to be mixed together¦".
Rabbi David Sperber - the Gaon of Braֵov (1875-1962, Otzar HaRabbanim 5075) was amongst the leading Rabbis of Galicia and Romania. He was born in Zablatov, to a family of Vizhnitz Chasidim. Disciple of Rabbi Meir Arik. From 1908, he served in the rabbinate and in 1928, he became rabbi of Braֵov. He wrote Afarkesta D'Aniya, Michtam L'David, and other compositions on all areas of Torah. He became renowned for releasing agunot after the Holocaust permitting them to remarry. In 1949, he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and was one of the heads of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah.

He studied in the Grodno Yeshivah, by Rabbi Shimon Shkop, in the Mir Yeshivah in Poland and in the Lomza Yeshivah in Petach Tikva .Even before he married, he was appointed as the first Rosh Metivta in Ponovezh Yeshiva and his classes drew many students to the yeshiva. He passed on the Torah he learned in yeshivot in Lithuania to the new generation in Eretz Yisrael. He greatly influenced all the Torah world of our generation. After his death, his writings and the writings of his students were published in the books Shiurei Rabbi Shmuel and Zichron Shmuel.
