Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De’ah, with the Darkhei Teshuva on Hilchot Melicha and Basar Be-Chalav. By the Admor Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Shapira Av Beit Din of Mukachevo. Vilna, 1923. Second edition with additions.
With stamps from the Gaon Rabbi Issakhar Shlomo Teichtel of Pishtian. Dozens of lengthy scholarly glosses and insights in his handwriting. One of the glosses says: “I was awakened by one of my senior disciples, Kalman Kratzer”.
Rabbi Issachar Shlomo Teichtel (1885- killed in the Holocaust. Otzar Ha-Rabbanim 12429). He was a Torah genius and a Chasid, among the famous Hungarian Chassidic Rabbis, filled the Rabbinical Office and headed the Yeshiva of Pishtian. Among the few Hungarian Chassidic Rabbis who sided in favor of massive Alyah to Israel. Authored the “Mishneh Sachir” responsum and the “Em Ha-Banim Semecha”. (His grandson was the Gaon Rabbi Meir Brandsofer of the Jerusalem Eidah Chareidit).
A leaf was found tucked in the book bearing the stamps of “the group of Bachurim from Yeshivat Moriah in Pishtian”. The leaf is a letter draft from a student of the Yeshiva in Pishtian telling his friend that “under these wild conditions, it is impossible to focus properly” [= this was apparently written at the time of the Holocaust]. He tells how he has completed the learning of the first 110 paragraphs of Yoreh De’ah “and now I am tying a strong knot over these so I won’t forget them so quickly… and I hope, Gd willing, that after Hanukah, our Rabbi will test me and give me...”.
123 leaves; [1], 174 leaves. 30 cm. Fair condition, use marks. Original binding with leather spine, worn.
