The first part - “Tikkun Midot Ha-Nefesh” by Rabbi Shlomo Ibn Gabirol – is missing. In the present book, the two other parts are bound together and complete, no title page. First printed edition of the “Musarei Ha-Pilosophim” essay and second edition of the “Sefer Ha-Tapuah”.
1-[25]; 24-27 [should be 26-29] leaves, 21 cm. Good condition. Stains and wrinkles. Antique cardboard binding. Owner’s inscription, ink stamp and ex-libris.

Copy with missing leaves, 62 leaves (out of 78, missing the title page and additional leaves at the beginning and the end). 29 cm. Fair-poor condition. Stains and wear, tears on several leaves. Worn binding.
Opinions differ regarding the exact print date of the book, it was apparently printed between 1560 and 1572. Rare.

Ma'or Einayim, by Rabbi Azarya Min Ha'Adumim. Mantova, 1574.
Divided into three parts: Kol Elokim [about earthquake in Ferrara in 1571], Hadrat Zekeinim [on the translation of the Torah into Greek], Imrei Bina [various essays and homiletics].
Rabbi Azarya Min Ha'Adumim (1512-1578, Otzar HaRabbanim 16731) an Italian scholar, proficient in Torah and sciences. His book Ma'or Einayim was banned immediately after its appearance by Italian rabbis who found in it things that oppose tradition and are disrespectful to the words of Chazal. The book was brought before Rabbi Yoseph Karo – the Beit Yoseph, who commanded the book to be banned but the ban was never realized. The Maharal used very sharp language when expressing his opinion on the book and it is known that the Maharal's book Be'er HaGolah was written in reaction to this book. [In spite of the negative attitude to the book, authors brought things in its name and the Sdei Chemed wrote to recommend them and wrote that the fact that the ban of Maram Beit Yoseph was never realized is a sign from Heaven that the book is fitting to be accepted].
During the controversy about the book, a condition was made with Rabbi Azarya that he must remove six leaves [52-53, 81-82, 87-88] from the book where the unfit thoughts were written and change them with other leaves, and in addition he must print and attach the critiques of Rabbi Moshe Provinzallo to his book.
On the inner pages of the cover, Dr. Mehlman writes that the leaves 81-82 of the book are the original leaves that were not changed, But according to our examination, apparently all the leaves of this copy are corrected, [see attached photocopy]. At the end of the book, two leaves of critique by Rabbi Moshe Provinzallo were attached and after them four leaves with the author's answers to the critique.
Three glosses in antique Oriental handwriting. A number of signatures in Oriental handwriting of "Chai Moshe Pigoto" – a rabbi of Aram Tzova, author of VaYachel Moshe [died 1816, see about him in Likdoshim Asher Ba'Aretz, Entry 452], signature of "Yehoshua Tzorogon".
194 leaves. 21 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Moth marks. Restored damage on first and last leaves. New half-parchment cover.
