Manuscript of a prayer to be recited over Rav Israel’s grave [Italy – Ancona?, 1885?].
“This prayer was initiated by the Chief Rabbi of Tirano to be read over the grave of the holy Rabbi Israel”. The prayer begins with the words “Dear Eternal Father… Look from the Skies and See with Mercy” and mentions “The great and holy Rabbi Chaim Avraham Yaakov Israel, who is buried at this site”.
This prayer was apparently initiated [by Rabbi Daniel Tirano?] to be recited upon the grave of Rabbi Chaim Avraham Israel, Rabbi of Ancona, of the greatest sages of his generation (1715-1785), son of Rabbi Moshe Israel, Av Beit Din of Rhodes and author of the “Mas’at Mosheh”. He served in the Candia (Crete) and No-Amon (Alexandria) Rabbinical Offices, and served from 1774 as rabbi of Ancona Italy for over twenty years. His books: “Beit Avraham” and “Amarot Tehorot” on the Shulchan Aruch were printed after his passing. See enclosed material about him.

The book was bound with the manuscript Pizmonim for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur and various collections, appearing at its beginning and end.

Contains a few essays about Shechita and novellae on slaughter rules.
Part of the notebooks are in early writing, and other parts in later writing of the 1960's.

Manuscript. The book clarifies the roots of the Hebrew languages deferring to their sources in the Bible and the Sages. Letters Alef till Zain and Letters Nun till Ayin. Rabbi Israel of Lomzha. [early 20th Century, c.1930].
Part of a vast encyclopedic work. The subject matter indicates extensive knowledge in many fields and was probably compiled by an erudite Torah scholar who's knowledge lay far beyond the sphere of grammar and linguistics. [Name of author, according to library catalogue where the manuscript was held in the past].
Vol. I: 378 leaves, 27.5 cm. Vol. II: 289 leaves, 21 cm.. Each page comprises of four columns. Good condition, signs of damp on page margins. New cloth binding.

A letter by Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Berlin, Rabbi of Berlin to the heads of the Freidland community. Berlin, [c. 1780].
A letter concerning seizing work for a non-Jewish master, addressed to "… the leaders of the Freidland community. At their head… Rabbi Yochanan". The letter's content enables one to see the power held by the rabbi of a country at that time. He writes: they should announce in public "not to swerve from my orders and if I shall hear one voice which will not arise and adhere to my call, that person shall surely know that I will gird my loins to oppose him and pierce him with my arrows to ostracize and separate him from the Jewish people". In the continuation of the letter he writes to the heads of the community "you, the heads of the community, must lead the nation down the correct path, and such actions should not be performed in your place, truth and peace you shall judge in your courts, maintain ethics and speak words of truth, and you will receive blessing and peace from your Creator". He signed: "He who is very occupied, Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Av Beit Din of Berlin and the State".
Rabbi Zvi Hirsh, Av Beit Din of Berlin (1721-1800, Otzar HaRabbanim 17206), one of the greatest rabbis of his generation, grandson of the Chacham Zvi, son of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Av Beit Din of Galuga and Amsterdam and brother of Rabbi Shaul Av Beit Din of Amsterdam. He served as rabbi of Galuga, London, Halberstadt and Manheim. In 1772, he was appointed rabbi of the capital city, Berlin, a position he held for 27 years.
