Letters from the Gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Segal Deutsch. Braşov, 1939.
The letters were sent to a friend of his father in law’s, Rabbi Chaim Leib Lerner from New York [more about him in item 434]. Letters filled with content, words of Torah and matters relative to the printing and publishing of his father’s books (the Haggadah of “Kol Yehuda" from the Belz Admorim, “Ahavat Chaim” and more), blessings for the festivals and other topics. In two of the letters, the name of the son of the "Arugat Ha-bosem" is mentioned.
Rabbi Yehoshua Segal Deutsch (1910-1990), author of the “Beit Ha-Lachmi” is the son of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Deutsch from Mako (Hungary) [more about him in item 518] and the son in law of Rabbi David Shperber, Av Beit Din of Braşov. Learned in the Chust Yeshiva directed by Rabbi Dushinsky and in the Kirali Yeshiva with Rabbi Yo'el Teitelbaum.
He filled the position of “Junior Rabbi” at Braşov and served as the Rabbi of various congregations in the Diaspora. He was connected to the Belz and Vizhnitz Admorim. After the Holocaust, he emigrated to Jerusalem with his father in law. In Jerusalem, he was appointed Av Beit Din of Katamon. He was the first Rosh Yeshiva of Belz in Israel. He founded the “Ma’ayan Ha-Chochma” institution for the publication of holy books.
Three big postcards filled with dense writings. Good condition. Romanian postmarks from the years 1938-1939.

In 1929, he emigrated to the United States and served there in the rabbinical office. In 1957 he published his book “Imrei Chaim” with the “Atzei Chaim” pamphlet. [“What I have heard from the holy Rabbi from Sighet” – things that weren’t printed in his book].

This letter was sent to his brother in law, Rabbi Ya'akov Shemaria Segal Deutsch. Deals with Halachic questions, family matters and travel routes from Hungary.
The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Segal Leibowitz (passed away in 1980), was the son in law of Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Deutsch from Mako. (More about him on item 518). He was the Av Beit Din of Kapish (Hungary).
After the Holocaust, he was the head of the Orthodox Beit Din in Budapest, who mainly dealt with Hatarat Agunot (Dispensation of the abandoned wife) from the “Sheerit Hapleita” Holocaust survivors, as mentioned in the introduction of his book Mishnat Ya'akov responsa.
He lived the last few decades of his life in the United States, where he was known as one of the greatest Poskim. He was among the heads of the Rabbinical Organization in the United States (this Rabbinical Organization is affiliated with the Satmar circle and Hungarian emigrants) and was known as the “Rabbi from Kapish”.

A letter on Torah matters, from Rabbi Yekutiel Yehuda Greenwald of Columbus. 1951.
In his letter, sent to Rabbi Chaim Lerner (more about him on item 434), he speaks about a directive he had heard from the author of the “Arugat Habosem” about a chicken having two gall bladders.
At the end of the letter it is possible to notice his responsible attitude towards his role as Rav Posek in the United States. “All my time is taken for the sake of helping others, that’s why whoever can clarify the law on his own [should do so], it would be a pity to use up my precious time”.

Letter from Rabbi Shlomo Policheck “The Iluy from Maychit”. (Brooklyn, October 1922).
Sent to Poland, to the administrator of the “Tachkemoni” school in Bialistock (in which Rabbi Shlomo served as teacher, in the year before traveling to the USA). The letter deals with the efforts made in order to approve monetary assistance from the “Central Relief” in the USA for the benefit of the “Tachkemoni” school. In the letter, which was sent approximately a month after his arrival to the US, he writes: "I apologize that I have not written earlier since I was very preoccupied since I still have not acclimated myself to this county and its people…”.
The following are mentioned in the letter: Rabbi Meir Berlin, Rabbi Rosenberg, “our dear friend… the Ga’on Rabbi Ya'akov Av Beit Din of the holy congregation of Charashtz and the Av Beit Din of Hardack”.
The Ga’on Rabbi Shlomo Policheck (1878-1928, Ozar Ha’Rabbanim 18569) was well-known in the yeshiva world as “The Iluy from Maychit”. He was referred to by this name from age 12 upon his arrival at the Volozhin yeshiva to study. His geniuses reasoning were famous throughout all the Lithuanian Yeshivot and until this very day are popular. When Rabbi Yitzchak Rines opened his yeshiva in Lida, the “Iluy from Maychit” was appointed as Rosh Yeshiva. In the year 1921 he was summoned to serve as Rosh Yeshiva of “Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan” yeshiva in New York (USA). See attached material.

In a letter of 1898, written during Chol Ha-Moed Pesach[!], Rabbi Ben Zion writes about a public polemic concerning slaughters out of Bielsk, whether the previous rabbi [Rabbi Aryeh Leib Levine author of "Yefe Einayim"] has forbidden them or not. In the letter of 1902, Rabbi Ben-Zion asks to summon a book editor who will assist him in editing his book for printing.
The Ga'on Rabbi Ben Zion Sternfeld Av-Beit-Din of Bielsk (1835-1914, Otzar Ha-Rabanim 3943), a leading Rabbi in Lithuania, served as rabbi in Poland and Lithuania. Friend of "Chafetz Chaim" and teacher of Rabbi Itzal'e of Ponevezh.

Rabbi Shlomo Ya’akov Shein (1856-1934, Otzar Ha-Rabbanim 18852) became rabbi in Tzitevian in 1893. From 1898 he served as rabbi in Latzkova, Kovna district, until his passing in 1934. He authored the Avnei Shayish Responsum. The Rabbi of Ponivezh, Rabbi Yosef S. Kahaneman, said that he knew him well, and attested that he was among the great rabbis of Lithuania. (Moria, issue 301-303, 2004, page 163 – see enclosed material).

The Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zak (1871-1943), Rabbi in Kandau, Mithau and Riga, served as Chief Rabbi of Latvia. Before his passing, the "Or Same'ach" entrusted his monumental work "Meshech Hochma" on the Torah to Rabbi Zak and Rabbi Zak published it.

The recipient of the ordination, the Gaon Rabbi Peretz Ariel (1914-1992), served as Rabbi of Magdiel for many years. Amongst other things he wrote "that he excels in qualities and character traits that our Rabbis extolled in the Mishna and he will become a well from which those who are thirsty for the words of Hashem will drink".
Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer (1870-1954), author of "Even Ha'ezel", disciple of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk in the Yeshiva of Volozhin, was the Av Beit Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Slutsk. He moved to Jerusalem in 1924 and was appointed head teacher in the "Etz Chaim" Yeshiva. Of the heads of "Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah".

Letter of prohibition and protest against the weekly paper "Tzofar", handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yisrael Kanievsky and rabbis of Bnei Brak, Rabbi El'azar Menachem Man Shach, Rabbi Yechiel Michal Feinsten, Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Vozner and Rabbi Nissim Karelitz. 1979.
The weekly paper "Tzofar" published in Jerusalem, arose at the time many scandals when publishing gossip, part of which was true. Following this proclamation of protest the editor escaped to the United States, where he continued his journalistic work, issuing a new paper where he published gossip about the hidden and the seen, true and false stories about the Rebbes' families and courts.
Letter with deletions and corrections written on a used paper-cover of a newspaper sent to the "Steipler"'s home, 14x9 cm. Good condition.
