Responsum Chevel Ya'akov, sections 1-2 on Choshen Mishpat (Hilchot Kinyanim), by Rabbi Abba Ya'akov Borochov Av Beit Din of Vilkavisk. Vilna, [1923]. Renewed version with many additions to section 1, which was published in Vilna (1881) and with the addition of section 2.
Dozens of brief and lengthy handwritten glosses by the author. Apparently, these glosses and additions were written prior to the printing of his book Hashmatot U’Milu’im (Jerusalem, 1932), most of the glosses were printed in that publication with slight alterations of language. However, some of the glosses and additions do not exist in Hashmatot U’Milu’im.
A stamp of Rabbi "Ya'akov Chai Zraihen… Tiberias" appears upon the title page.
Rabbi Abba Ya'akov Borochov (1848-1936, Ozar Ha’Rabbanim 56) was a prodigy and genius from a very young age. He was the disciple of the Maharil Diskin in Yeshivat Shklov as well as the disciple of Rabbi Eizel Chariff. He served in the rabbinate in a number of small towns in Lithuania and was known for the place where he served as rabbi in Valkovisk. In 1923, after the completion and printing of this book he immigrated to Jerusalem and was considered one of the greatest rabbis of the city. Despite his old age he made the effort to add glosses to his book and apparently some of them were printed in the pamphlet Hashmatot U’Milu’im [of which some copies were found in a few libraries with glosses in his handwriting].
[1], 1, [XIII] pages, 118 leaves. 27.5cm. Dry paper, fair-poor condition. Unbound, detached pages. [Part of the additions are cut off].
