Five photographs of the Chizbatron Troupe and the Carmel Troupe – performances before the Alexandroni Brigade after the battles in the area of Beit Guvrin during the War of Independence. [1949].
1-4. four photographs of members of the Chizbatron Troupe, including Shaike Ofir, Naomi Polani and Elyakum Shapira, appearing before soldiers of the Alexandroni Brigade near the building of the police in Beit Guvrin. One has a devided postcard back and is captioned by hand.
5. Group photograph of Alexandroni Brigade soldiers in the village of Dawayma (today, Moshav Amatzya), approx. 12 km. south-east to Beit Guvrin, before or after a performance of the Carmel Troupe. Seen in the photograph, among others, is Bomba Tzur.
The two performances were held in early 1949 and were meant to boost the soldier's morale after the fierce battles in Iraq al-Manshiyya and the death of 87 soldiers of the third company of the 33rd battalion of the Alexandroni Brigade (December 28, 1948).
9X6 cm. to 13X8 cm. Good overall condition.
