Six postcards depicting scenes and paintings of characters from the play "Yoshe Kalb" staged in the Yiddish Art Theater in New York. Printed by Allied Printing, New York, [ca. 1930s].
The Yiddish Art Theater was founded in New York in 1918 by actor Maurice Schwartz who immigrated to the USA from Galicia. The theater was active for 40 years and staged numerous plays, among them "Yoshe Kalb" by Israel Yehoshua Singer, performed about 300 times.
Presented here are six postcards with pictures and illustrations from the play "Yoshe Kalb": * Three postcards with photographs of scenes from the play by the photographer M. Goldberg. * Two postcards with reproductions of engravings by Shaul Raskin, depicting figures from the play. * "Tipn fun 'Yoshe Kalb'" [characters from the play "Yoshe Kalb"], a postcard with ten photographs of the actors.
The postcards are titled on the margins in Yiddish and in English. Printed on the back of three postcards are praising reviews from newspaper (two in Yiddish and one in English).
