Notebook with Handwritten Dedications – France, mid-18th century

An ornate notebook with dedications. [France?], 1761-1769. Latin, French, German and Italian.
An ornate notebook, in a leather binding with gilt edges, compiling hundreds of literary quotations, from all over the world, all written by hand. A vellum title page (drawn by hand) opens the notebook with a dedication, and the owner's name in an illuminated framed (G.H. Habermann) and the motto: "Life with no literature is death" (Latin).
Pages with dedications are numbered by hand; at the beginning of the notebook appears a table with the names of dedicators and the page on which the dedication appears.
About 260 written pages, 16X10 cm. Good condition. Stains, some slight creases and damage to margins, pen inscriptions to several leaves (small, not affecting text). Damage and wear to binding, with tears to spine. Front cover partly detached.
