Birth Certificate – Karlburg, 1862 – Signature of Rabbi Naftali Sofer, Disciple of "Chatam Sofer"
Birth certificate of Sali Wald (born 1817), signed by Rabbi Naftali (Nathan) Sofer. Karlburg, Hungary, 1862. Two document-stamps appear on top of the certificate and on the bottom appear the rabbi's signature (in a foreign language) and wax-stamps of the rabbi and the community "Naftali Sofer Rabbi of Karlburg" in Hebrew and in a foreign language.
Rabbi Naftali Sofer (1819-1899, Chatam Sofer and his disciples, page 202, Otzar Ha-Rabanim 16132), born in Pressburg and circumcised by the Chatam Sofer. Studied in Chatam Sofer's Yeshivah and the latter wrote a letter of recommendation for him in 1837, studied also with "Katav Sofer", served in Karlburg and Petchi-Naydorf rabbinates. Author of Mateh Naftali, Bnei Naftali, Sha'ar Naftali and other books.
