Synagoga Judaica – Buxtorf – Frankfurt, 1738

Synagoga Judaica, by Johann Buxtorf. Frankfurt. 1738. German.
An important book composed by the Hebraist and scholar Johann Buxtorf (1564-1629). Buxtorf accurately recorded customs, prayers and lives of Ashkenazi Jews. Several engravings appear within the text.
Although the book's tone is explicitly anti-Semitic, it is considered a milestone in the study of Jews, and even Jews of the period used it often enough.
