Album of photographs recording the period during which a British soldier stayed in Palestine. Ca. 1939.
About 230 black and white photographs, mounted on the album leaves and titled by hand (English). Among them:
* About 20 photographs of the military camp in Rehovot (present day "Bilu Camp"): a guard at the gate, stables, panorama of the camp, Arab prisoners at work, streets and houses in the town, and more. * About 40 photographs of sports games and competitions: boxing tournament in "Zrifin" camp, tennis, football and cricket games, hunting and more. * About 60 photographs of encounters with the Arab population: visits in villages and homes, pumping water from a well in the desert, confiscating weapons in Merar Village and more. * Tens of photographs from settlements, sites and towns in Palestine: Jerusalem (Temple Mount, Church of all Nations, Tower of David), the Tel-Aviv shore, Jaffa, Kibutz Hulda, Nes Ziona and other places. * Seven photographs of sites and buildings in Egypt: Pyramids, the Sphinx and more.* More photographs.
The album is bound in a leather binding, with a gilt embossing of the initials "J.N." on front.
Photographs are in various sizes. Average size: 11.5X8 cm. Good overall condition. Slight defects to some photographs. Album: approx. 42X30 cm. Stained leaves, with slight creases. Slight tears and defects at margins of leaves. The binding is worn and slightly defected (mainly at spine, corners and margins). The strap for closing the album is worn and torn into two.
