Hanukkah Lamp - North Africa
Hanukkah lamp. [North Africa, late 19th or early 20th century].
Cast brass.
Based on a 17th-century Italian design: the general shape of the back plate is triangular, and it is decorated with a fish-scale pattern; the side plates are shaped as towers with bulges at the top. In this lamp, two bird decorations were added to the top third of the back plate (characteristic of North African Hannukah lamps), as well as a fleur-de-lis decoration. The shape of the oil fonts and shamash is characteristic of Italian Hanukkah lamps.
Length: 19 cm, width: 25 cm. Some corrosion and stains. No screws.
