Draft for a Simchat Torah flag, by David Gilboa. [Late 1940s].
Gouache on thick paper. Unsigned.
In the center is an illustration of a group of children dancing in a circle; surrounding them is the Hebrew inscription "Sisu VeSimchu BeSimchat Torah" ("Be happy and celebrate on Simchat Torah"). Adorning the four corners are illustrations of Rachel's Tomb, the Western Wall, "The Knesset Building in Tel Aviv" and the Hebrew University.
The flag's final version appears in: "The Flags of Simchat Torah, from Popular Jewish Art to Hebrew-Israeli Culture", Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, 2012, p. 122.
Enclosed:
· Three flags for Simchat Torah; two from the late 1940s-1950s and one from the late twentieth century. · Succah decoration with the Hebrew inscription "Baruch Ata Be'Voacha" ("You are Welcome").
