"The Tinsmiths" – Dresden, 1917 – 60 Etchings and Original Painting by Michel Fingesten

Thick volume with 20 etchings by Michel Fingesten in three different printing stages. All are signed in pencil and numbered 10/10. Including an additional title page - an original painting by Fingesten, initialed MF 20. Bound in vellum binding set with the original copper plate from which the etching between pp. 248-249 was printed (in other copies of the book the binding is set with the copper plates of other etchings).
Michel Fingesten (1883-1943), born Finkelstein, Jewish painter and graphic artist. Studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts and after some travel settled in Munich, later moving to Berlin. After the Nazi rise to power he settled in Italy, where he was detained for his art and imprisoned in a concentration camp. Died a few days after the camp's liberation by the British army.
383 pp., 34 cm. Very good condition. One of the nails fixing the copper plate to the front binding is missing. Light wear to vellum binding.
