Certificate Written and Illustrated by Hand, in Honor of Adolf (Avraham) Berman – "Stern" Sports Club in Wroclaw, 1949

A certificate written and illustrated by hand, in honor of Adolf (Avraham) Berman, on behalf of the Jewish sports club "Stern" [yiddisher arbiter sport-club "Stern"]. Wroclaw (Poland), 1949. Yiddish. Signed on the margins: "Segalle - 49".
An illustration of two cornucopias, with figures of sportsmen. Between them appears a dedication in Yiddish: "dem ern forsitzer Adolf Berman in tog fun….'Hashomer Hatza'ir" [to the chairman Adolf Berman, on the day of unity between the Jewish workers party "Poalei Zion" and Jewish workers party "Hashomer Hatza'ir"]. Above the dedication appears the logo of the sports club "Stern" (a Star of David in green and blue). On the lower part of the certificate - signatures of the chairman of the sports club Adolf Berman (in whose honor the certificate was prepared), the two vice chairmen and the secretary of the club.
Avraham (Adolf) Berman (1906-1978), a Jewish-Polish public figure, during WW II he was general director of CENTOS organization that assisted orphans, and was one of the leaders of the Anti-Nazi resistance movement in the Warsaw Ghetto. Was member of the Polish Parliament in the 1940s. Immigrated to Israel in 1950 and was active in Mapam. Later was Knesset Member on behalf of Mapam and Maki.
40X50 cm. Good condition. Some foxing and creases. Tiny perforations at margins and tears restored with adhesive tape.
