A book with letters from Dalbert Hallenstein, a Jewish soldier in the Australian Army, written during World War I. The letters, most sent to his family, depict his service in France and the battle of Gallipoli, and are accompanied by black and white photos. It seems that the book was printed in a limited edition.
Dalbert Isaac Morris Hallenstein, served as a Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion of the Australian army. He fell in the line of duty in September 1918 in France, at the age of 25 (the last letter in the book was written several days before his death). Items from his estate are preserved in the Jewish Museum of Australia. 218 pp, 21.5 cm. Good condition. Leather binding of good quality (slightly damaged) with gold embossing. Gilt edges.
