Lot 132
Album in Memory of a Jewish Soldier Who Fell in the War of Independence
Photo album commemorating the soldier Michael Ya’akobi (1928-1948), who was killed in the line of duty on May 5, 1948, in the battle to liberate Safed – only 9 days before the State of Israel was founded.
The 56 poignant photos in the album document the various stages and events of Ya’akobi’s brief but fulfilling life: childhood and youth in Eretz Israel, studies at the “Kaduri” agricultural school, his days serving in the Hachshara, service in the Palmach and Haganah underground movements, and ultimately – the battle for our independence and the place of his death and grave.
Faux-leather binding with a copper relief insert entitled “HaChorshim” [“The Plowmen”] and signed “Bezalel Jerusalem” on the front cover.
Average size of photos: 6X8.5 cm, album 20X30 cm. Good condition.
