Extensive Collection of Eretz Israel Maps
An extensive and impressive collection of maps of Eretz Israel and the vicinity and illustration plates from voyage and exploration books – about 100 lithographs, wood-cuts and engravings, some colored by hand.
Most of the maps and plates are from the 17th – 18th centuries; some are earlier while others are later.
The collection includes, amongst others:
• Beschreibung des heiligen Landes Canaan. Map of Eretz Israel on both sides of the Jordan River; the river drawn as a snake. Woodcut. A leaf from Heinrich Bunting's book "Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae" (voyage through the Holy Scriptures). [Magdeburg, 16th century].
• Asia Minor, map of Minor Asia. A leaf from Sebastian Münster's book "Cosmographia". [Basel, 16th century]. Woodcut.
