Pewter Plate – Binding of Isaac

Pewter plate - the Binding of Isaac. [Germany, mid or late 19th cent.].
Hammered and engraved pewter.
Pewter plate. The scene of the Binding of Isaac appears in the center in a style resembling European paintings. Isaac appears in the center as a young boy, his knees bound and his eyes covered. Abraham stands with a drawn sword, next to him the angel with a hand stretched towards Abraham. The deer peeps from behind a tree (on the left). The rim of the plate is decorated. It is possible that the plate was in use on Rosh HaShanah for its reference to reading the Torah.
Diameter: 25 cm. Fair condition. Minor corrosion on the decoration, significant corrosion on the reverse.
